Can an immigrant simply merely re apply for his visa while hes still within the u.s?
what does an immigrant need to re apply for a visa? my boyfriend doesnt have an i.d. how does he get a legit i.d?

Well, does your boyfriend enjoy a green card, like legal immigrants do, or is he on some sort of nonimmigrant visa? If he is on a nonimmigrant visa, is he still surrounded by status or not? If he's out of status, there's nothing he can do really. If he is in status, he could contact USCIS and ask for an extention. If he's out of status and goes contained by to ask for an extension, he'll probably be deported though, as basically he would be identifying himself as illegally here. But he can't return with a new visa in the US. That can only be done outside of the US. Check out uscis.gov for more information and forms.
An immigrant doesn't requirement a visa of any kind. The I-551 (green card) issued to all immigrants is adjectives that's needed.
