Can I emigrate to the US ?
What do you need to qualify ? I looked into this a while ago and decided I couldnt do it - But Ive seen some grill from people who seem to be about to move off..
Im a UK citizen. Earn quite above average wage in London. No criminal record.
Like to move to one of the big cities.

not that easy - you may necessitate a sponsor in the US - It is based on a category system with "subsequent of kin of an American citizen" being category 'A' etc
as for lottery visas they haven't allowed British-born people in for olden times few years due to over subscription in the past

I wouldn't worry I suspect many americans might be trying to cross the other direction when the depth the economic crisis become obvious with in the subsequent year or so.

10 millions apply each year and only 50.000 people are select each year. then you need to qualify if you own some education and some countries cannot participate in green card lottery. I would look for other places and forget nearly usa cause they have enough problems beside illegal immigrants. you have to apply for the visa lottery.
another method is to look on-line for employment and if you find a company that needs your services they can sponsor you for a visa.
there are plenty of UK people within America that I've met. They come here and do quite well.
