The real problem isn't the barrier, any stout fence over about 12' will work just fine. Ground sharp radar and caving in the tunnels would be good too. The unadulterated issue is why they want to come here. They want jobs. If jobs were no longer available they would quit coming and it would be easier to stamp the border. Stop giving them medical care beyond first aid. Stop making their children citizens when their parents are here illegally. Start arresting the employers and levy huge fines for hiring illegals. Do the same with homes and houses that rent to illegals. Deport, without cross-question, every illegal found on our soil.
Lastly, give the border patrol the teeth to deal beside the problem and defend themselves. Allow police agencies to follow the money trails to see who is getting paid to support illegal invaders and prosecute them for treason.
Finally, vote out of organization every bleeding heart that is against strong border enforcement.

If I had my approach, unlike those political types inside the beltway, we would protect our borders with greater security. The porous border would be closed significantly by mining the border 3 miles inside the border. This would have great benefits. I assume it would be more cost effective. I think warning signs should be posted contained by warn the invaders of what is to become their fate. Then inspect every vehicle coming into the US. When illegals or human smugglers are discovered, they should have a chip implanted surrounded by them to know where they are. They both should be deported across the border into Mexico.
