There can be no guarantee that you will recoup your investment when you buy property, no concern where it is. Currently prices are dropping to the GTA (greater Toronto area) but not as sharply as they have in other areas. Richmond Hill is nice and so are North York, Mississauga and Oakville. Toronto is an expensive city but by and substantial a pretty safe one.
I can't say that job opportunity are going to be excellent for immigrants in their 50's. We are in an monetary recession and many people are being out of a job from their jobs. If you have some skill, like a physiotherapist or contrive or had a trade like electrician it would be easier to find work, but you would have to be sure your license would be valid here.
I'd say aloud it costs about 40,000 a year for a couple to live comfortably in Toronto. It is hard to variety a go of it with just one main source of income unless that one is highly paid.
You can find the price of condos at realtor.ca. That website is a little not easy to manoeuvre around in, but it will give some idea. A map of the city can be downloaded from yahoo map or other map programs. The Toronto Star is the best general paper, probably at least section are available online. One thing you didn't put in your list within transportation. Being near your employment is a bonus and being on a major transportation smudge is a bonus.
Toronto has a good number of people of Indian root so you would not have a problem getting familiar food and meeting culture. Source(s): Canadian immigrant and Toronto Realtor
The worst part of Toronto is as past the worst as th nicer parts of of US cities. However, remember that Toronto and Vancouver are the most expensive places to live in Canada. and the winter weather in Toronto is brutally cold.
Richmond Hills is intensely nice area, so whoever recommended it has recommended you good. Other nouns you may consider is Mississauga, even though crowded now yet its still very secure to live comparing many areas of Toronto, plus if u sell your apartment in Mississauga you will other get your capital back. If you want to live implicit Toronto but in a calm place, I'd recommend areas like Oakville. On the north side, just this minute built houses (or buildings) in Markham are good also.
Toronto and surrounding areas are pretty safe. Job potential is based on what you are looking for and your skill level. What I suggest is that when you first move to Toronto, try to rent a place for a few months until you procure a job that you like. Then you can buy a condo and settle in. Although genuine estate is a pretty safe investment you need to understand that selling unadulterated estate in this part of the world is not like surrounded by India. Selling usually can take 30 days or more and getting your original investment back is not other guaranteed due to market changes and real estate/legal fees. For the lat 6 years everybody made money when they sold their TRUE estate investment but right now the prices are about 10% down. Also although Toronto is a nice city, public transport is not as good as London or Paris. So, you involve to settle in your job first and then opt where you want to live.
Please note that there are copious Indian people in Toronto, especially in Brampton. If you want relief with looking for places to rent let me know. I might be able to assistance.
