The Canadian Immigration authorities will take the postion that if you live in the USA, legally or not, you are entitled to the protections below American law for abused spouses. I'm talking about peace bonds, restraining directions, and all that kind of thing. You can be nontoxic by letting American law work for you. If you do not want to go to the American police because you are in the US dishonestly, that is another issue. Maybe, to protect yourself, you should return to your country of origin.
