Cuban Immigrants vs. Mexican Immigrants. Fair?
Why are Americans so up in arms about illegal Mexican immigrant possibly getting amnesty and work permits? Cubans have been coming to American for decades and the immigration policy for them is simply "if they make it to the US they get asylum and a green card". Mexicans too are fleeing a corrupt government, poor conditions, and a horrible cutback.

What ever happen to equal protection under the law? You cannot, constitutionally, treat Mexican immigrants any differently than you treat immigrant from any other nation.
Either END the special treatment of Cuban immigrants or grant the same special treatment to ALL immigrant.

The biggest difference is that Cubans are fleeing from a Dictatorship whereas Mexicans are fleeing a (corrupt) Democratic government. The immigration policy that you referred to makes it legal for Cubans to wish asylum once they are here. There is no such policy in place for Mexican immigrants, making any undocumented immigrants (from most countries) prohibited. You can't ask for protection from the law if you are breaking the law, although even illegal immigrant have civil rights.
I get what you're saying, but I see how extending that invitation to ALL immigrant would put a huge strain on our economy as well as our national security.
It is just one of the many quirks of parliament.
I agree that legal immigration is the only way ethnic group should be allowed to stay here.
Instead of writing on the internet, write to your local Congressman/Senator, and see what they say.

cubans are unacceptable any avenue for immigration, mexicans can apply at the local embassy. I'm not sure if fidel is to blame for cubans not being allowed to come here. IDK the specifics, but i think the US does not allow any legal immigration from cuba. So when the baseball player declare asylum in america it is not because he was not free to leave cuba but because he does not group criteria to be let into america and get a green card.

I have far more sympathy for the plight of Haitians, citizens of Darfur or Myanmar than those from our southern neighbor.
In 2007 almost 3,500 Cubans made it to the USA and were able to stay under the expressions of the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1965.

Fleeing from a communist dictatorship is different than fleeing from a country that is going through rough times. Hispanics have at least some opportunity to get their country better, if they stay and fight for what they believe in. In this country those who came up to that time us had to fight for the freedoms and opportunities we hold.

I agree it is not fair. Immigration laws need to be new soon. I believe Mexicans contribute more to the US then cubans. Mexicans come here to work, they take the jobs we do not want. Sure americans complain something like them bringing down wages, yet ask them to take the jobs and they will decline.

I do believe immigration law requests major reform, but I do believe we need restrictions. I also think we need a guest worker program, and an end to automatic citizenship to children born surrounded by this country to illegals. We also need to continue to increase aid and assistance to Mexico, and end the embargo on Cuba. That's my two pesos worth.
