Immigration to Canada?

I'm a natural American-born citizen of the US. Born and raised on military bases my entire duration (specifically Air Force). My family, on both sides, is heavily militarized, with an innumerable amount of military relatives. My family have been here in America since 1739 on one side, late-1800s on the other, and yes, I am black.

I wish to be a dual citizen of the US and Canada. I required to know, could I move to Canada after I graduate high school? How long would it take to gain Canadian citizenship, and could I enlist or be commissioned as an officer within the Canadian Forces after being Canadian Citizenship?

And, could I attend a Canadian college, all of this while being originally American?

All answers are treatment, except those that say "America is better don't move to Canada." I am HIGHLY patriotic, and I do stand for the Red, White, and Blue, but I just don't want to live here anymore. I would never turn my backbone on the US, just to let you know.

I'm pretty sure Canadian citizenship is much like American citizenship. You would probably need a student visa for the meantime if you progress to college there but your years there can count towards your (i think 3) years to your citizenship. All your question and answers should be here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp Good luck!
In canada u will be equally respected and welcomed. You will gain citizenship contained by 3-4.5 years. You will be also welcomed equally like others at colleges, high school, just like other immigrants.
From my point of picture, I think you can join the air force, since america is canada's key partner.

BUT what abour you family, think about them. With that contained by mind, If I was in your place, I will stay in America. I will walk out to Canada or other countires but my base will be the U.S.A.
It's very rock-hard to immigrate at age 18 because you have very little in the track of skills, education and experience to bring to the table for Canada to let you immigrate. If you want to get a student visa and walk to university, that will work but you have to show that you can pay for tuition and pay for your upkeep surrounded by Canada as well as that you will go back to the US when your studies are done.

If you can't do that, you requirement to look at the Immigration Canada website, look into what you need in the way of skills to spawn it easier for you to immigrate and gain those skills in the US. The immigration website is at http://www.cic.gc.ca/

A student visa or a temporary work visa in Canada will not acquire you citizenship directly. A student visa for at least 2 years followed by a 1 year work visa will get you the ability to apply for unwavering residency (Canadian Experience Class). A work visa in a skilled job for 2 years may do the same (Canadian Experience Class) or faster if you hold employer sponsorship (Provincial Nominee Programs). If you have enough education and you are contained by the right line of work, you may be able to apply directly for immigration by yourself (Federal Skilled Worker class). Working as a live-in-caregiver for 2 years will also give you the right to apply for irretrievable residency (Live-In Caregiver program under the work temporarily section).

Once you have permanent residency, you can combine the armed forces, see http://www.forces.ca/html/index.aspx?m=0… although it would be better if you are already a citizen. You can apply for Canadian citizenship after you have lived in Canada for 3 years as a permanent resident. If you be in Canada before becoming permanent resident, some of that time may count too for up to a year so afterwards 2 years after becoming a PR. Normally it takes about a year to process a citizenship application.

As you see, this is a long term project but worthy luck, whatever you decide to do :)
