Legislators will again try to crack down on Hoosier businesses that hire illegal immigrant.
The House and Senate each passed bills last year that would revoke the licenses of businesses repeatedly caught beside illegals on the payroll. But legislators were unable to agree on a final version.
Carmel Senator Mike Delph have modified the bill this year, giving administrative law judges more discretion to decide violators' penalty. A third offense could still put a company out of business, but businesses would face increased reporting requirements for a first violation. Licenses could be suspended on a second offense, but for no more than 10 days.
The bill also drops an attempt to codify state-federal agreements on how to handle bent aliens in custody. Delph says police agencies believed there be insurmountable logistical hurdles.
He says he hopes deleting that section will straightforwardness opponents' fears that the bill could lead to racial profiling by police.
Delph argues the state's budget crunch underlines the stipulation for the bill. He says the cost of social services to illegal aliens puts additional pressure on the state's resources, and say he's doubtful the Obama administration will do any better at enforcing immigration laws than the Bush command.

Is the only way to deal next to illegal aliens to make employers dubious citizens if they hire illegal aliens? Is this the way to control the illegal aliens surrounded by Illinois?
Answers:
This is definitely a step in the correct direction. We necessitate to crack down on the employers that would hire illegal aliens.
It is the law that employer be fined, imprisoned and lose their ability to do business within America if they verbs to thumb their noses at the law. It is not America that makes them criminals it is their own disregard and disrespect for our law that makes them criminals. It is high time we started to enforce those laws! We the People hold paid far to high of a price at the hands of this issue.
I agree next to Delph that Obama is going to overlook this issue and actually try to push through an Amnesty bill. We the People have to unite and not consent to this happen!
Sad isn't it? A second offense and you get shut down for a maximum of 10 days? So I can knowingly hire illegal, licentious criminal invaders and get caught twice and still only face 10 days sour? What if one of those illegal aliens commits one of the 350,000 child molestations that they commit every year in the US? I guess that's OK because we don't want to hurt the criminals feelings? What is wrong next to these people? What ever happened to doing the RIGHT thing?
I think the penalties should be stiffer. Heavier fines and a longer closing time.
It's a step in the right direction. but these law have been in place for years, lately because employers chose to ignore them doesn't mean they shouldn't be severely punished. Employers who disregard the ruling have contributed to this financial problem we're in. When the price of committing the crime of hiring illegals is stiff enough they won't be tempt to hire them.
Actually, this is Indiana.
