"A dog born surrounded by a stable doesn't fashion it a horse". Does that expect not a soul is British?
I notice quite a few people read out that if someones parents or grandparents and immigrants then they aren't British. Even if they were born here.
But no event how far your family tree goes back surrounded by this country, they weren't originally from here.

I hate that metaphor. It's really irrelevant, it's not resembling immigrants are a different species.
Ethnicity =/= Species
Quite right.
Same as near is no such thing as Indian, Pakistani, Israeli, Australian Palestinian or in fact any indigenous ancestors anywhere - because as far back as you go they weren't originally from there be they. They all emigrated from the Rift Valley.
When you think give or take a few all the hype over the British Empire and it's invasion of other countries none of it actually holds water base on the indigenous argument - because they were all squatters and squatters have no rights! The British Empire simply moved within and squatted alongside them. Source(s): Logical thinking
If that's the case here must be no Americans as their whole nation is based on immigration whether it be the 20 million Italians, 40 million Hispanics, the large Afro Caribbean Race. American Asians or the numerous other groups.
If any country is a mixture of peoples it is the US.
I've never heard that aphorism before but I quite like it. I can trace my home tree back to the late 1700s and we are all Brits final to then - who knows where we be from before then. I class myself as British although I'm not so proud of the British society as it is today.
Judging by your argument there cannot be any separate nations on earth . Since man 1st arrived on dust he has moved around
family groups formed tribes tribes joined together to form countries etc Once nation became established they had there own law & citizenship
From that point on , immigrants are foreign
No it routine what it means. If an American on vacation to London were to enjoy a baby that baby wouldn't be British based on human being born in the UK. On the other hand when my cousins had a little one in London it was British based on the reality that they are British citizens.
dude, that saying is redunant. if you're born somewhere you are a citizen of that country.
my wife and i are irish, my daughter be born in england. i consider hr irish whilst her birth cert says something else.
Of course a dog born in a stable is not a horse BUT like the horse (and other animals as well) it have the right to live in that farm.
Fair Point. But every Country should stick to their regime of culture and so on otherwise the World would turn out boring. Britain was once a Country including only Christian people. Now next to numerous cultures crammed into one Country and the population rising ever so sharply, the original people who walked this Country are man drowned by other Cultures and are loosing their say which is not fair and i'm sure any other person within another Country would feel the same way if this be happening to them. The colour of the skin doesn't matter. A foreign person that lives contained by the UK and can move on and accept they are in another Country and follow their law without twisting them, whatever their race, is a true Brit.
You have a point, as surrounded by that sense everybody is from africa. I think a thousand years is long enough to claim you are a native.
Does it have a horse pee pee?
no nation on earth is ethnically "pure" cross border interaction have ensured that not even the nazis during their time could claim to be pure i think this makes for better population and should make people realise that racism is pointless.
Not at adjectives. There are family by birth and those who were naturalized. Your bag is more compelling for us in the U.S.A. None of our families have be here for hundreds or thousands of years unless we are Native Americans -- yet all citizens are U.S. citizens...........
Nobody is from anywhere then until you go pay for to the beginning of evolution !
If you're born in Britain to Chinese parents, no, you will never be ethnically British. Just like if you're born in Japan to French parents, you will never be ethnically Japanese. Nationality and ethnicity are two majorly different things. Like your residency can be Chinese but your ethnicity can be Icelandic. Even being a citizen of Britain will never make you genetically British.
That's why my bets never come up. Woof.
