When fellow Brits move out of the country, should they integrate?
When people from Britain leave the country for other places to live, should they integrate?
For example, should Brits in Dubai become Muslims? If we move to Australia, should we support Australia within the Ashes?
I only ask this as there are lots of questions give or take a few immigrants to the UK integrating and wanted to know if the same standards held by some should apply to us in a foreign country?
Answers:
I don't want Muslims to integrate contained by the UK, I do not believe in the UK having a UK Muslim community at all
Anyone that chooses to live in another country should try to integrate and become a part of that community and respect that country's rules and culture. You do not obligation to change religion as everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. Just do not try to force it on anybody else or try to change their way of existence. Also there is nothing wrong with person patriotic to your own nationality during sporting events whilst living abroad. No business which country you live in its not being disrespectful to that nation if you support your home side during International matches. Its human personality. People should have pride in who they are.
Yes they should integrate.
Theres nothing to say a Brit in Dubai should "become a Muslim" anymore than a Muslim within the UK should become a Christian. But a Brit in Dubai needs to be mindful and respectful of the laws, customs and culture of that country (ie not sh*gging on the shore for a start) and not try to force the country they have to moved to to change the way they do things to accommodate them and should at most minuscule make a concerted effort to learn Arabic!
Just as a Muslim within the UK needs to be mindful and respectful of our laws, customs, culture and traditions and not try to force us to change to accommodate them.
The same go for supporting Aus in the ashes, no reason to start supporting Aus just because you moved to Australia anymore than an an Indian contained by the UK should have to stop supporting India and support England. But they should not expect to be treated as "British" if they constantly remind people that they are not British, support different teams enjoy different culture etc. I imagine most Brits who live in Aus and still support England in the Ashes don't send for themselves "Australian" - they consider themselves British ex-pats,.
Much like a Pakistani who lives in the UK, maintains his own culture and supports Pakistan within the cricket is a "Pakistani ex-pat".
I know that if I found the religion, culture and traditions of another country unpalatable or in conflict with my own, I would avoid that country. I would not move there and afterwards start demanding they change their country to suit me.
no one expects any immigrant that comes here to change their religion. neither should any brit have to transmutation if they emmigrate.i would love to move to france and i would integrate if i did. and whenever i go to france i try my best to speak french. i dont expect anyone to speak english. immigrants in this country verbs to live as if they were still in their own country. people close to that should be.
If a Brit decides to move to another country, yes he or she shud trademark an effort to learn the lingo and comply with local law bur that does not meen support another cricket or football team.. The couple that got caught having sex on the beech deserve wotever punishment they return with and a lot more. If they dont like laws contained by Dubai then dont go to Dubai..
But if u meen that when Muslims from Pakistan or Afgmaistam come to live in uk they shud be allowed to blow zemselves up within airport lounges or london tube trains coz zats their way of expressing zeir faith in Allah, I importune to differ. If these ppl really hate Britain so much why cant they just go elsewhere - close to Hell?
When in Rome...do as the Romans do...basically means that one should integrate out of respect & courtesy for the host country. It doesn't mean changing your religion or tradition which should never be imposed surrounded by the host country but practised quiet in the confines of one's home...as a proper, polite guest would do.
Its all roughly courtesy.
MR SCEPTICS ALTER EGO Well said, you saw through this anti British question.
It should be a personal decision. I dont' believe you should stick to the local language, and I do believe you should be aware of social customs and beliefs. But to join up in everything.. no. And I think you will find people who are original to the country also don't join in all the elements of a society.
Social integration does not necessarily christen upon people to change their religious beliefs or sporting affiliations. Learning the language and person aware of local customs is all I would feel is appropriate if a move is long term.
yes they should. But surrounded by dubai its a different story as theyve invited immigrants from all over the world to help build their alien country. But i think anyone who goes to someone elses country should intergrate, if you dont like it - f**k past its sell-by date back where you come from.
I don't think I really understand the question but I don't see why society should change their religions just because they live within a different culture ... I'm muslim my self nil in this whole world would make me happier than you sir converting to Islam ... but instinctively I think mingling is limited to being nice and respecting the culture of the those you live amongst ... If I've answered an entirely different question I apologise it's my poor english that's causing the mess heh.
people have near own views and life to express, it's up to them what they do.
but they dont have to bring it as far as that. lol
maybe just understanding the culture/customs of the country.
Yes.
I'm a Brit, and if I ever move to USA, Canada or Australia some day (like I plan), I'll try my best to fit in. I'm not really religious, as I'm agnostic, so it wouldn't be a big issue. And I wouldn't whine about petty differences any. Which some other Brits have a tendancy to do. <_<
I don't expect i could go to america and stop myself from correcting their spelling. and grammar. constantly.
should i spell things incorrectly to fit in?
But dont you know specifically completely different for the BNP trolls? Oh and they move abroad because (irony of all ironies) they are 'sick of bloody foreigners'
I think we should hold more respect for the countries we move to. Just look at the Costas in Spain. Like Blackpool in Spain now they are
Of course they should what your in actuality trying to do is say we are hypocrites.I know several ex pats who live in Australia and they are hugely pro Australia.
No one should have to renovate their religion, political views, etc just because they move abroad, but everyone, including Brits, should integrate to an extent... Speak the spoken language, respect the culture, and so forth.
When in Rome...
if you move to argentina, you should even support diego maradona and his team
If they feel so inclined.
they should integrate but that doesnt necessarilly mean varying religion! x
Yes, when in Rome etc..
Religion - no (it's a myth anyway), support for the 'local' teams where you own your livelihood, yes.

a. YES/WHY? b. NO/WHY? c. MAYBE/WHY? d.AUSTRALIA FOR AUSSIES! Yes, we do. Why? Because employers can't find people to employ.
