Illegal immigrant contained by labor at ER- what do you imagine?

I live in Florida. I was recently surrounded by the emergency room and I saw something disturbing. A couple came in and the woman was within labor. She filled out the card with her personal info and gave it to the nurse within triage. They sat down and then the nurse came flying out of the nurses' station. She begin shouting at the woman "why are you here" and "there is no social security number on this paper". They obviously did not speak English and the nurse continued to shout at and belittle them surrounded by front of the whole waiting room. The woman was obviously surrounded by labor. I don't care what your personal opinion is of the illegal immigrant situation. This be clearly a serious situation. I wanted to say "what would you like her to do, step home and potentially bleed to death from having an unattended birth?". It clearly says on a sign contained by that ER that they cannot refuse service to anyone. What do you think?

She should not be shouting and mistreating anyone. I hope she shouts at citizens without insurance.
Just to add my 2 cents worth...

#1, the treatment that woman was subjected to be horrible. The nurse needs to be reported asap.
#2, I am an American citizen, and I REFUSE to give my social security number out to most people/organizations. Including, but not controlled to, medical facilities. To this day, no hospital, doctors office, dentist department or clinic has my social security number. It does piss these people rotten when I refuse to supply it, but by law it is NOT required in proclaim to obtain medical treatment.
You should report her, as she broke HIPAA laws/rules.

She should be in serious trouble. Me human being a nurse, no matter how I feel about someone is other put aside to care for clients as I should do! Source(s): http://www.hipaa.org/
The nurse desires to be fired. She broke the rules/ laws that hospitals have.Like you mentioned ,they cannot refuse service to anybody. She be very rude and if I were you I would report her since you were a witness. When you're contained by any line of work you MUST act professional at all times ,no business how much you don't like what you may have to do.That nurse was out of column! I hope mom and baby are ok.

I see somebody making excuses above me.There is no excuse for that kind of behavior.Obviously the nurse acted very unprofessional.
I think "swine flu" has cause the racist foul stench of racism that unfortunately still infects America to expose its ugly face!!
Why was she contained by the ER, Im sure she had a doctor to contact for this situation since she had 9 months to plan. Deliver the anchor baby and later report her to so she can be deported. I don't really care if she was hollared at, worse could have be done.
I wonder why the person if in "obvious" labor be even in the ED. Any ED person would have sent her to OB triage first and foremost. ED is not specialized contained by OB care.

Filling out paperwork in most OB units happen after delivery and finances are discussed and completed then.

Most hospitals have interpreters on ring to help those who do not speak English anyway. It helps to assess a persons ailment first, so they would own waited for the interpreter.

So I wonder again why anyone would be shouting like that in the waiting room.
Well I surmise she shouldn't be here in the 1st place because she is illegal so that's her personal problem. I would probably yell too. We take-home pay taxes for our people not for illegals. But me personally, I probably would've helped her, of late this once. It's not the baby's fault.
They should deliver the infant, and call ICE. If we had any STATESMEN in our Govt., we'd already be voting on a Constitutional amendment which would avow that any child born in the US to a mother who is here illegally is a citizen of that mother's country of LEGAL residence. And this would be an Ex Post Facto amendment. NO MORE anchor babies!
EDs will ultimately treat anyone who comes in and who presents next to an emergent situation--regardless of their legal status. That's the law. The law does not read aloud, however, they have to LIKE it, nor does the law say they aren't allowed to express an OPINION more or less it.

The reality is that illegal alien criminals cost us a boatload of money each year for birthing their babies. At Parkland Hospital within Dallas Texas, the cost of birthing the babies of illegal alien criminals is $70 million annually. That's right--$70 million each year for one hospital and one city..........now multiply this the country over and the costs are staggering.

We--the American taxpayer--are pose the burden of this cost.

Think about how much of this that ED nurse has seen. Is she aggravated? You bet. Do you know how much money hospitals are losing today? They are shutting down because there aren't enough paying customers paying the full load of expenses! And the US govt doesnt compensate them enough to cover their cost of providing the service for the things the govt pays for (that's why so many doctors won't even take Medicare patients, the govt does discharge enough for the services they provide).

That ED RN has probably seen her coworkers out of a job, has seen the hospital forced to cut back on other services, etc. She sounds feed up and if that's the case, I dont blame her. And I'm not pointing a finger at her either if she blows in frustration sometimes.

Learn a bit just about the basics of health care financing -- and the current financial state of hospitals surrounded by the USA -- before you go spouting off judgment at the very people who are dealing on frontline with the trueness of this crap every day.
1st, how do you know it was a nurse? Did you see her name badge next to "RN" on it?
2nd, you are right, she shouldn't be yelling at anyone.

Let the woman have the baby, after deport her. The baby goes with mamma until he/she can support him/herself.
