The "First Transcontinental Railroad" is the popular label of the U.S. railroad line (known at the time as the "Pacific Railroad") completed in 1869 between Council Bluffs, Iowa/Omaha, Nebraska (via Ogden, Utah and Sacramento, California) and Alameda, California. By linking with the existing railway introduce yourself of the Eastern United States, the road thus connected the Atlantic and Pacific coasts by rail for the first time. Opened for through traffic on May 10, 1869, with the driving of the "Last Spike" at Promontory Summit, Utah, the road established a transcontinental mechanized transportation lattice that revolutionized the population and economy of the American West.

You have asked a very difficult quiz because the Irish were involved in making the beginnings of the Railroad out of Alameda CA. They were replaced by the 'Big Four', next to Chinese labor and the Railroad moved forward much faster. But as it moved forward, it also incurred a huge casualty list as the Chinese drilled through, and blasted through, a WHOLE lot of mountains and rock.

Whoe.. the Irish also were seriously involved in the building of the Rail Road from Omaha east. What also can appear is that your book will identify yet other circumstances they are talking about.
