My topic is " immigration since 1945 in Canada"

Two suggestions.
First -- Go to the dictionary and get the definitions of immigration. In a drastically large dictionary, you'll find more than one.
Depending on what data you have, you may choose to differentuate between permitted and illegal immigration.
For example, "Webster's Unabridged dictionary of 3/8/2008 defines Immigration as: 'a) xxxx, b)xxxx and c) xxxx.' Since Canada's population increase since 1945 includes illegal immigration, we find like source defines Illegal Immigration as: 'a) xxx and b) xxx."
Using this approach can give you some ideas on what to gossip about.
Second. Figure-out how you are going to end your essay. Are you going to ask that the reader agree with you? If so, articulate so at the end. Or, if you think there should be more study contained by areas that you've talked about, say that.
It is open that Canada's population has gotten bigger since 1945, and it's not all because of births of babies in Canada. So, what is your subject matter? If you can figure out the "catchy-end", you can lead-up to it in the middle.
Good luck.
a good template for any introduction is:
1.slit
2.explain the purpose
3.detail what your essay will address
