Who really are the irish immigrant to us?

Answers:
I don't know who they are to you but some of them are my relation. A large group that came to America LEGALLY!
There have always be Irish immigrants to The States. The first wave of Irish were certainly the Scotts Irish, from the north of Ireland (in the currently occupied territory). These were mostly Protestant. They came over and largly settled within the hills and vallys of Appalachia.

Then came the Irish Potato Famine in the second 1840s. The Catholic Irish largly survived on potatoes, and a blight hit the land that year and almost all of the potato crop failed. The same entity happened the next year.

But the funny thing is that potatoes weren't the with the sole purpose crop grown in ireland. There were all sorts of other foodstuffs grown, but the English occupier of Ireland at the time shipped all the other food off the Mother England, leaving the Catholics to starve.

That started one of the largest emmigrations ever out of Ireland. Over a quarter of its total population any died or emmigrated out.

The British were happy to see us chased from our country. They never could control us, so they tried to starve us out.

Now, look at how the times have changed. Ireland, thankfulness to imput from the EU, is now an economic powerhouse in Europe, while England have almost sunk to the status of a third-world country.
It looks as though you want people here to write your homework for you.
A large majority of the population, but much more. They were the backbone of the crop growing community years ago. They harvested a lot of coal from deep mines. Ran oodles of the long haul wagoneer's companies, and a great deal more. People who really enjoy St. Patrick's Day.

* Potato famine, uh...I don't remember exactly when.
Okay, who dislikes our Irish immigrant so much? Why all the thumbs down? lol
As far as I know, all of my ancestors were German immigrants. But most of my friends own Irish ancestry. America would not be nearly as great as it is without them.

Irish immigrants came to the US largely from the mid-1800s to early-1900s to escape poverty and starvation brought something like by an epidemic blight that swept the potato crops in Ireland.
um, some of my ancestors.
