Marriage - dual citizenship?
I'm Canadian my fiancee is American. I am currently visiting in the USA and intend to marry soon. I'm wondering from experience ppl only who enjoy done the legal process with Canada Immigration.
Should I wed in the USA while here and after bring him to Canada with the spouse sponsorship or wed in Canada then sponsor from nearby? Looking for the easiest direct route.
Answers:
It doesn't matter where you get married but to sponsor him to move about to Canada, you have two options, inland and outland. With inland, he's in Canada when you apply, it would not be advisable to him to set off while the application is being processed and he can't work until first stage approval so he would basically be stuck in Canada short being able to work for several months. Also with inland, if your application is refuse, you have no right to appeal.
With outland, he is in the US when you apply, you can still visit him and he can pop in you and the processing time for PR is around 7-8 months average, around the same as he would have been getting a first stage approval and work licence with inland.
Just remember to send immigration a lot of proof that your relationship is physical, photos, emails, chat logs, phone bills etc. etc.
And by the way, neither of you will be getting dual citizenship any time soon. He will get PR and he will have to live contained by Canada for 3 years as a PR before he is eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship which will then take more or less a year to process.
what leon said is correct.
if you apply inside, he cant work and cant leave Canada. You need to support him. procesing takes between 1 and 2 years.but at least possible you will be together
if you apply outside, processing is done within 12 months, and he can still work at his old job vertebrae home. you need to go visit him while processing is going on. Source(s): PR surrounded by Canada
