I believe the Italians were the largest European immigrant group. I don't know how the English compare surrounded by terms of being one of the smallest or one of the largest.
The Germans be the majority dominate immigrant Group until passed by The Mexican in the last few years.
I'm not sure of the %, but they are the ones that established our current government. Plus the fact that American english the dominant language in the borders of our country, and you can't get a high school diploma minus completing the english language studies. I would say that they were the dominant influence.
