Of the first whirl of Chinese who came to America, most settled in Chinese community of San Francisco...sounds like Angel Island is the answer.
Most Chinese immigrants enter the US (obviously) through the West Coast. Therefore most came to the San Francisco port of entry (I don't know if that was Angel Island) rather than Ellis Island (NY port of entry).
Ellis Island is the east coast entry. The Chinese came from the west, so they would have been processed on Angel Island.
Angle Island. The European immigrant arrived at Ellis Island.
