Like it was said, it's probably because they have a sneaking suspicion that you're going to stay. I've gotten one-way tickets withing my country and the reason I get them is because I don't know the exact date I'm returning.
most of the time, if you are a dual citizen, you may purchase a one way ticket to jump back to your home country,
as, if you bought a one way to another country? it would be assumed that you have no intention of departing,
most countries demand that you have a round trip ticket.
