Not really true as you are trying to lump a complicated issue into a simple answer.
Immigration "can" be good for the economy AND most Americans. It can be biddable for the economy and bad for middle/lower class Americans and it also can be bad for both.
It in recent times depends on the circumstances, the numbers of immigrants and the state of the economy.
As a point - Imagine if we allowed 10 million legal immigrant every year and did nothing to stop illegal immigration at all (not that we do much immediately -lol). Within a few years this country would be in the worst shape since the great depression. Wages would be rock bottom as millions of unemployed vied for few job. Taxes would skyrocket to build water treatment plants, electrical generation facilities, debris disposal areas, schools, etc.
There has to be limits and we allow opening more legal immigration then WE need immediately. We allow more then ever in the history of this country yet even to be precise not enough for some people. We have text unemployment. We are lowering our quality of care beside medical, schooling, etc. We are suffering shortages of water, electricity, etc. We have no funds to provide for our own poor, elderly and children so why should we add millions more that entail food stamps, welfare, housing, etc.
Of course medical is another subject and this is the immigration forum so I will stay on topic.
