I want to help out my boyfriend but im only a permanent resident, and i've hear that if i marry him he would get a social security and he would be able to go and get his license, is that true?

Yes as long as you have a legal acknowledgment to US. You need to prepared for long case - it takes few years.
I am a permanent resident sponsoring my husband who is an illegal immigrant, It doesn't exactly work like that... it take a lot longer if you are a permanent resident opposed to a citizen.. you would still enjoy to wait until they have processed his papers that you have file with immigration. I files mine back in 2007 and we are still waiting... he cant renew his license because he doesn't enjoy a social. And just because you are married and have STARTED his papers, it doesn't mean that he is free from deportation if you hold a child with him it's the same thing also. It be a misconception that I believed and I talked to my immigration lawyer about it and he could still be deported. it basically takes time. Have you ever thought about becoming a citizen to speed it up any? Source(s): Personal experience with a babe-in-arms and illegal husband who we are fixing papers on.
Hey, that's nice of you to help him, I'll explain you how it goes:

He entered officially with inspection WITH a valid visa? with HIS visa and HIS documents? if so - once you're a citizen and you two get married he will folder for a Green Card and get a SSN and everything.

However, if he entered illegally in need inspection (illegally through the border) or he entered with someone else's documents - he is not entitled to adjust his status even if you are a US citizen and you two draw from married.

There's the DREAM Act, maybe he can benefit from it. Did he arrive the US before he was 16? did he graduate from a highschool in the US? he's in the US for more then 5 years? if adjectives the answers are YES, and the DREAM Act pass - he will be be able to get a Green Card if surrounded by the next 6 years he will (1) Complete a 2 years college. (2) Complete 2 years in the military (armed forces).
Another DREAM Act requirement is that he's under the age of 35, but it might even revision for 40 or they will even cancel the age limit.

To you second question, nought will speed any process because you are a Permanent Resident and not a citizen.
