see immigration. you can work or move in attendance if you qualify on your own or be sponsored. yes you do keep us citizenship as you have to live in canada for five yrs until that time you be a citizen. you become a landed immigrant first. that is like a us legalized alien .

maybe you should contact an immigration lawyer they will probably advise you to seize a visa, and you can always renew those and also you keep your american citizenship.
