Answers:
No, living in Canada for 1 year 40 years ago doesn't qualify you for citizenship. But if you needed to apply for immigration as a permanent resident it would count as Canadian experience.

No, you won't qualify. I don't know the specifics of applying for citizenship, but you usually inevitability to live in the country a minimum of 5 years to even apply. In the US it's ten, and I think it's about indistinguishable in Canada. If you lived there for only one year, after you were (legally) never more than a visitor. I don't think so friend. Although, it may count towards time lived in that. You have to live there for so many years beforehand you can apply for citizenship. This might take a year off your qualifying time. Unless you be born there, you'll have to apply for citizenship. Good luck!
Keeping your irrevocable resident status
Your permanent resident status allows you to live in Canada, but there is also a time curb on how long you can live outside the country. To keep your status as a permanent resident, you must live in Canada for at lowest possible two years within a five-year period.

Edit: The above text is taken directly from the Canadian Government pattern page and applies to permanent residency. I did not mean to imply you could not start the process over again.
I don't think so unless you maybe flew wager on every year with the geese IF YOU ARE A LIBERAL SOCIALIST YOU WILL LOVE UP THERE
