Canadian Native Indian living contained by America Need Question Answered?

How do Native Indians from Canada go abouts obtaining the same rights they have in Canada with the American Indian Health Services, and Local Indian Bands? For example are there places Canadian Indians can be in motion to receive Health Care? Or Educational Grants?
Answers:
I am not native american but my experience is
membership in a accepted tribe is essential.
unless you belong to a tribe on both sides of the
border I don't know how you can do what you want.
First Nations Canadians will not qualify for most programs for American Indians. I have friends from Gordons Reserve and Sioux Valley in Canada and none of them qualify for IHS (Indian Health Services). They do not qualify for better education funding reserved for American Indians either as they are not part of US Federally Recognized Tribes. However, I believe near are provisions of the Jay Treaty and maybe another Treaty that allows certain rights and privileges for First Nations Canadians who are here in the States. Not adjectives First Nations Canadians will qualify for even that though as I believe it is based on blood quantum (50% or more) and possibly other stipulations as well.

Good question, you might want to contact some of the Tribal Organizations here in the States. I suspect they've have this question before.
I remember reading about the laws you refer to in the Immigration and Nationality Act. There are special provisions for race such as yourself. You should contact the embassy to get the specifics.
In the United States only the citizens of the 562 US “Federally Recognized Tribes” are "legally" Native American. Any rights, services and laws that apply to Native Americans in the United States applies ONLY to them.

The services and programs provided to Native Americans surrounded by the United States are paid through their “Tribal Trust Funds” and/or their taxes. As a Canadian Native American you/your tribe are not contributing members to that money. So no you will not qualify for services or programs such as Health Care or Tribal Educational Programs. The same situation is true for US Native Americans in Canada.

The first resource for revealing funding is your own First Nation. If you qualify for recognition in the United States as a Native American through the Jay Treaty you qualify for:

Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Eligibility Criteria

As a Native American you may also qualify for Private, Field of Study, Organization or Corporate grants and scholarship. Some specifically target US and Canadian NA and a few will state “from anywhere in the Americas“. You have to look at the Eligibility Criteria. When in doubt contact the exhibition sponsor or apply anyway, if you don’t fall within their Eligibility Criteria, they will simply turn you down.

My answer to this question will provide you beside some resources to begin your search for educational funding.

You don't.

IHS provides services to members of federally recognized tribes solitary. It is not a health service for indigenous peoples from other countries.
If you go to the Indian Health Services web site at
www.ihs.gov., you may be capable of find some answers to
your questions. Source(s): as above
