What do you presume of the court ruling against “The Good Samaritan” helping immigrant?

(CNN) -- An Arizona man caught leaving water bottles in the desert for unjust immigrants has been sentenced to 300 hours of community service and a year of probation, an aid group said.

Walt Staton, a bough of the group No More Deaths, left full water bottles in December within Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge for the illegal immigrants who routinely pass through the 18,000-acre place of safety, according to court documents.

A judge sentenced him Tuesday to 300 hours of picking up trash on public property and a year of probation, No More Deaths said in a written statement. He is also banned from the sanctuary during that time, the group said.

Although the case involved only a misdemeanor charge, both sides used the divisive issue of illegal immigration within their arguments; Staton's lawyer argued that Staton's actions were humanitarian, but the system said otherwise.

In a sentencing memo, the federal prosecutors wrote that Staton's "actions are not about humanitarian hard work, but about protesting the immigration policies of the United States, and aiding those that enter illegally into the United States."

Noting the phrase scrawled on many of the plastic sea jugs -- "buena suerte," or "good luck" in Spanish -- the prosecutors said, "The open conclusion is that the defendant and No More Deaths wish to aid illegal aliens in their entry attempt."

This country needs more those like this man. More people who value the enthusiasm of another. Condemn someone for giving water to another human being? Wish death on someone for crossing the border? No means of access.
He is leaving the plastic sea jugs -- "buena suerte," or "good luck" in Spanish and after this the jug remain open to being tainted and when a carafe is fooled around with, this No More Deaths will be subject to lawsuits. This is further proof Mexico leaves their borders open and anybody can come and go at will.Mexico blaming America for bread and guns, when Mexico does not even patrol their borders leading into America
Just when you loose hope in our even-handedness system they do something like this.
It's call aiding and abetting the illegals. That's what every person should get who facilitate illegals. And not just leaving water bottles surrounded by the desert for them.
He got off lighting, they should have shot him for harming the environment. The world has too tons people, if some die out in the wilderness, it is nature way. How dare this idiot drop water bottles all over.
I option they'd thrown him in jail. If I helped a criminal rob a wall, then i'd go to jail. Helping filthy criminials is adjectives the same, and i'm glad he got busted.
he was not helping immigrants, but aiding and abetting crooked aliens and drug runners coming into the states. He should have gotten the whole sentence his crime could have given him.
He's helping people commit crime.

That's illegal.
He is a Good Samaritan indeed!
Are they sure this person wasn't really a greasy person that comes on here quit recurrently and take up for illegals?I would expect that if this person broke the law afterwards he should have to do the time whether its picking up trash or in jail.I find this also down in the mouth,as you can see this person is an american trying to help others(even ifs its wrong) and gets arrested for it but the illegals can merely come in and drink that water and have zilch done to them.Americans cant win when it comes to illegals.
