What does a sponsorship for a foriegn spouse expect?
someone i know has a grandson that wants to marry a woman from the philipiens. his grandson wants him to sponsor his wife. what does that miserable.
Answers:
It means that the grandson is going to transport documents to the us immigration proving they are married and asking to bring her in the us. He will have to support her financially till she get the work travel document in the us.
I'm guessing he means for his grandfather to be a co-sponsor for the Affidavit of Support.
Anyone petitioning a potential immigrant, such as a spouse, needs to prove that they are able to financially support them so that they do not become a public charge. They necessitate to earn 125% above the poverty level for the household size and if they are unable to meet that, they can use a co-sponsor to form up the difference.
The Affidavit of Support remains in effect until the immigrant has earned 40 billet of work credit (working full time, this would take 10 years), becomes a US Citizen, leaves the US (and abandons residency) or dies.
If the beneficiary/immigrant uses any form of "manner tested public benefit" (Medicaid, food stamps etc), the US government can require that the sponsor/co-sponsor bear the cost.
It means the grandfather will be responsible for her support until she becomes a citizen, works ten years or dies. He is promising the government that she will not be a burden to our country and will not rely on policy benefits. If she applies for and receives government benefits, the grandfather will be responsible to pay them posterior.
