Do you believe police officer should be empower to enforce the immigration law?

Answers:
Yes yes and whay they hell arent they already? wtf??
Local police officers should be allowed to ask any and all question concerning the identification of arrested individuals. [Whether the arrestee responds to such questioning is a separate matter.]

Information reasonably obtained from the arrestee should be permitted to be shared with federal and state agencies with a compelling justification to know such information for crime investigation, border security, immigration status, taxes, and/or receipt of government benefits purposes.

Identifying information in the order of individuals who are convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment should also be made available to federal and state agencies with a compelling reason to know such information.

However, local police officer should not be 'empowered to enforce the immigration laws', whatever that means. Local police officers operate within a particular zone of authority and so do federal law enforcement agencies.

The point is that the legally obtain, identifying information about arrestees and convicts at the local level should not be suppressed or excluded from disclosure to other governmental agencies that need to know such information to perform their functions.
YES! And many do. They should be given Federal money to do so since the federal govt. refuses to enforce the immigration regulations. ILLEGALS don't need to be surrounded by this country and harbored in ANY city.
near is hundreds of thousands of people who are highly dangerous for our kids , for our women and for ourselves who should be contained by jail right now , so the thought of diverting the Strength we have contained by the police department to go look for those undocumented with out criminal record lately makes me want to puke . i mean how are they suppose to stop looking for those they cannot find and focus in those which own a job even if they are not documented , i see a huge problem with that , those who think looking for 13 million of population is a simple task need to get authentic . Yes and many are. Homeland security offers a course for cities and give up money to train to handle illegals and other immigration issues.
You local city can apply to have their officers trained.

Last I checked over 1000 US cities enjoy had the training.
Of course, our country can not rid our nation of the 20 million illegals without abet from local and state police. It makes sense that the police should be able to arrest someone who is acting suspiciously and who admits he is an unauthorized alien. Many of these illegal aliens are criminals who steal, rape, murder, sell drugs, and belong to violent gang. It would help police to break up gangs who have several illegal alien members.

Below is info on the federal program that trains police in enforce immigration law.

Section 287(g) Is the Right Answer for State and Local Immigration Enforcement
by James Jay Carafano, Ph.D. Executive Memorandum #994

State and local law enforcement have an major role to play in federal immigration investigations. Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides the legal authority for state and local enforcement to investigate, detain, and arrest aliens on civil and criminal grounds. Any comprehensive border and immigration security legislation by Congress should include provisions for strengthening and expanding programs authorized underneath 287(g).

Comprehensive Reform Needed. Any effective solution for reducing illegal border crossings and the unlawful population in the United States must address adjectives three aspects of the problem: internal enforcement of immigration laws, international cooperation, and border security. Internal enforcement and international cooperation are essential to reducing and deterring the flood of illegal entrants into the United States, making the treat with contempt of securing America’s borders affordable and achievable. Nothing less than a comprehensive reform will do.
NO! they deal next to enough stress with their regular jobs why would you want to include more? This is a job for the Federal Government. If they (Border Patrol) can't handle it, why don't they hire more agents? No, not really. Being in this country immorally is classified as a misdemeanor. They have more important fish to fry.
Absolutely - the police are charged with enforcing ALL law - if someone is in this country illegally, they have broken the decree, period! Yes, I think that they should have the power to enforce immigration law, but it should be up to the individual cities if they want to involve the regular police in matters of immigration.
ABSOLUTELY yes, they are the ones that spend most time on the streets, this help out everyone
