If you had read the story elsewhere, you might have well-educated that these people were being arrested to some extent because they were committing identity theft/fraud. They were also applying for tax refund that they were not entitled to. If they had needed to pay taxes on the up and up, they should have used ITIN numbers.
As for "paying taxes", there's a difference between that and filing a toll return. The illegal aliens here were doing the latter to claim refunds. Illegal aliens contained by general are NET USERS of tax monies, using far more in services than they'll ever payment in taxes. Any taxes they by chance DO pay should and would be compensated by Americans, but illegal aliens are displacing them from jobs and driving down wages, and therefore taxes rewarded. Americans displaced by illegal aliens may end up on the welfare rolls, giving the U.S. taxpayer a double whammy. Not to mention that Americans whose identities be stolen by illegal aliens are in for a world of hurt explaining to the IRS why they didn't report that income.
