My grandfather was a native american born in Canada. The single proof I have of this is a paper from 1948 stating that he must return (to Canada) every five years to renew(?) his permission to stay within the US; from this I'm assuming he was never a US citizen. He did, however, marry my grandmother. He died in 1951, before the five years be up. If I wanted to become a canadian citizen, would this help? I know of no family from his side still surrounded by Canada. Thanks.
