Canadian Immigration Process (Family Class: Spouse)?

My wife and child are canadian and I'm american. I've been considering applying under the "Family Class" to become a Permanent Resident. However the thought of being out of commission for 1-2 years while I linger for my PR card does not sit well with me. Being stuck doing nothing for 2 years would drive me insane.

I guess my request for information is:
Is there anyway I could get a temporary work visa while I hang around for my PR card? Normally work visas are usually issued only to highly skilled workers; but my work experience is pretty plain. (ex:Retail, Sales, Customer Service, etc. etc.)
Answers:
well near your unskilled work you will not get a work permit. You have no choice but to sit melodiously and wait. However it will NOT be for 2 years. At most it may only be 6 months.

After the first stage (AIP - approval in principle) you will be eligible to receive an open work permit and you can work for any employer. This open work warranty is ONLY available inside of Canada and it is valid for 12 months, and must be renewed if your application is is not complete within that 12 months.

This is why your Canadian spouse MUST have a job or an income. because they will be supporting you for SOME of the time.

During this time on not one allowed to work - you are permitted to volunteer with a charity or any non-profit organisation that NORMALLY uses volunteers.

I strongly suggest that you do some volunter work because that will give you "canadian experience" on your resume. Employers always constraint or take the person with Canadian experience over the human being who does not have Canadian experience. They are not supposed to do that, but it continues.

BTDT. I had a good hobby that kept me colonized while I was waiting. I then spent 6 months volunteering with a local show business company while I was waiting for AIP and for my work permit. This gave me "canadian experience" for my resume. Then I could start working again.

And I too have the same skills and experience as you. CSR, admin etc. Let me tell you that if you do NOT have any diploma to back up the experience, you are going to find it hard to get a moral job. At best you may only find casual, hours of darkness shift and part time jobs.

I spent 3 years on a work permit while my application be being processed. I spent that time being a survey interviewer, as a CSR for a newspaper, medium monitoring and as sales leads generator. The highest I be paid was $ 12 an hour, the lowest was $8 which be the minimum wage at the time.

The only reason I took 3 years was because my skin had a major complication,. You should NOT Take 3 years. At most the entire process should take from 6 to 18 months. Provided you do not own any criminal record or other problem in your past.

I am very soon back in school for 1 year to upgrade my skills and acquire a Canadian qualification to add to my resume - in the hopes that I get a better opportunity and a better paid job as well.

Good luck and I will you well for the future. Source(s): PR in Canada
You can work discreetly while waiting for the approval.
