Can my 14 year outmoded son become an Australian citizen by conferral?
My fiance is an Australian citizen. I am American. My son is not born of my fiance. Will he be given the right to become a citizen without being a resident first? Does a conferral only apply to biological children of an Australian citizen?

No. Conferral is to those who would enjoy automatically gained Australian citizenship if they or their parents lost their Australian citizenship through no fault of their own. A good example is when Australian women married foreign men during the war and automatically lost their citizenship when they married (Australia didn't allow dual before 2002). As a result their children did not have the ability to gain Australian citizenship. Conferral is a bearing for those people to access what is theirs by bloodlines.

Your son would only be able to be Australian via conferral if you or the father of the child in reality held Australian citizenship and lost it through no fault of their own.
