a few years ago a alien hydro electric power station contract to be built on loch ness was awarded to a german company ,the labour first minister of the scottish parliament made the announcement that the bulk of the work would be done by local workers (what a myth) I had a 2 page spread within the local news paper regarding the reality that 99%of the workers were polish the only jobs given to the local workers be gate keepers and such like , a few applicants told me that they went to the site office a number of times and on query why was only told to re apply LABOUR PROMISES?
There are thousands of British workers on the dole who would be more than willing to work if the wages were decent. However whilst foreign workers live 10 within a 2 bed flat, and are prepared to accept much less in wages consequently things will not improve. You cannot blame the British workers, but you can blame the government for the minimum wage level man ridiculously low that no family of 4 can live on it even if they worked 45 hours a week. So I say British jobs for British workers should stand, but the arguement is better put, better british wages for British workers.
I go for an interview and the boss told me that he had to keep his wage level low otherwise he would be outpriced on contracts by other contractors undercutting him. How discouraging is that?
Because there's an undertone of xenophobia about it.
And it fail to take into account the number of British workers employed abroad.
Its not dangerous at all, but it adjectives started a long time ago when the tories took us into the common market which eventually became the EU.
Later surrounded by history (the 80's) the same political partiy set about selling the countries assets (gas, electric, water etc) which be all snapped up by foreign conglomerates.
These, now foreign but british, companies now take on more than there fair share of foreigners but are backed up by EU directive and the british worker cannot do a thing about it.
So when trying to apportion blame, maybe if you look hindmost before the current government and see the previous administrations policies of put up for sale, sell, sell and see where it started going down the plughole.
not very its about time someone with some backbone stood up SHOUTED IT and if truth be told meant it, but all we have is a nouns of fckuing jellyfish that are too scared to say anything for the fear of upsetting some cnut.
I have no problem next to foreign workers as long as we are competing for the same job on a level playing pasture. but most employers seem to prefer to take on a smaller quantity skilled worker who charges much less for there services and then hold on to a few good local workers to sort out there crap work! the british people own let this happen for a number of years very soon though and it seems that the only reason they are react like this now is because it is now affecting them, a couple of years ago when everything be rosy most people were apathetic about the situation
My two penny worth.
Be it any company or industry; when a few jobs are given to Non-British nationals (including non-UK & non-Europeans), does anyone here feel that they are doing it as a accurate will gesture to the non-British community? Definitely not! Do be informed that the company/ industry is making a living out of it. Now, when a UK employer makes a profit or sees it as a viable model; whom does it benefit more? The few non-british personnel or the remaining UK employees in its payroll? As I see it, its definitely surrounded by the interest of the nation to let the industry take the right steps to ensure that it survives the recession.
I understand that the times are difficult and the sailing is tough; but permit me tell, we need to accept this certainty. Losing a few jobs to non-UK nationals - if it helps the company survive the crisis; isnt this far better that letting the company die completely.
Which is better? A company surviving the crisis next to a few jobs being done by non-UK nationals or a failing company near 100% of its jobs being done by UK nationals.
It is considerable that we see the bigger picture; and all the more, during such times.
It's harmful, ignorant, bigoted and pathetic, as slogans go.
Most associates seem to forget it's NOT foreigners TAKING jobs, it's GREEDY employers GIVING them underpaid job.
As for people who think that foreign labour is not here, within a large part, to do the jobs we don't similar to then they are greatly mistaken.
You visit ANY farm where on earth they grow strawberries, potatoes, etc.. You'll find that most of the employed ARE foreign. They get paid the same wage and are, surrounded by most places, given the same rights. The minority of locals EVER working in these jobs is MAINLY due to have NO OTHER CHOICE.....
Very dangerous.
Whilst, it might superficially be attractive, especially where British workers are being undercut because foreign workers are competent to work for less, it is one of those "easy answers" that very swiftly falls apart when put into practice. Think of the logical conclusion if other countries start adopting similar policies. e.g.
American jobs for American workers
French jobs for French workers
Chinese job for Chinese workers
etc...
Britain is quite a small country (compare the UK pop of 60,000,000 with China's 1,200,000,000 - China can survive on its own) in language of population and is very reliant on international trade for its business to make money. If other countries start pulling down the protectionist shutters, favouring their own industries and companies, the UK will be heading for disaster.
Equally, closely of companies based in the UK are not British owned. If businesses from other countries shed workers overseas (e.g. in the UK) until that time employees at home(e.g. France) . A lot of British workers will be out of a job.
For example, you can write the motor industry completely off. There isn't anything more than a handful of micro-sized, motor manufacturer that are British owned...
... and perhaps that's the problem when companies who employ skilled workers take their job back home.
Immigration has always be the best way to put pressure on the british worker's salary.
Immigrant are supposedly doing jobs that british workers won't do.
That's bollocks!
It's taking job that british worker would do if tTHEY WERE DECENTLY PAID.
It make sense as seen as it is Britain, and British people do need to work as capably. the minority of people would argue that teh issues behind this statement are dangerous but I contemplate that something needs to be done for the people of Britain.
However is this the government and other political party being sincere in their policies or an attempt to get peoples votes
It make perfect sense.
Only politicians and companies are those against this type of suggestion.
These same issues affect workers in America as well as the UK.
im not living in britain im living surrounded by ireland and i think that british jobs should be given to british workers like i focus irish jobs should be given to irish workers. with the recession and the amount of people who are presently out of jobs is unreal. people are forced to sign on just to know how to pay mortgages etc.. while most the jobs are been given to foreign relations. and in some cases foreign people are coming here to just sign on. why are the management allowing this. and to make it worse the tax that people who are working own to pay is apparently getting increased. why should we have to pay extra when its the command who are leaving thousands of people into the country to claim from the social. it is ridiculous.
and the jobs that the foreign nation are getting isnt because they get to pay them a lower wage. where i work we enjoy had so many CV's dropped in by irish population who will do any work and any hours for the wage they pay but yet all the foreign ethnic group are getting the jobs over the people who are actually from this country. they are be paid the same as the rest of us not a lower wage.
im not saying dont grant jobs to foreign people all im proverb is that the jobs that are available should be at least offered to some irish people. the ultimate 6 people that have been hired where on earth i work are polish. why could they not have gave the jobs out a bit more somewhat like 3 to irish people and 3 to foreign people.
the establishment should really start loking into this and start to do something about it before hundreds more irish people become seeking work.
Depending on the applicants for the job it could be classed as a racist remark by you know who!
It isn't dicey. It makes complete sense.
Ask your teacher how they would feel if they be replaced by a cheap third world worker.
Some would phone call it discrimination against those who are not British.
