Legal or risky Mexican immigrant: shouldn't they cram English?
I'm sick of hearing "You need to learn Spanish because within are so many Spanish speaking people here." Why should the U.S. spend billions of dollars a year for foreign language studies, chiefly Spanish, if the Mexicans are coming here? Just because there's an influx of illegal Mexicans jumping the border, we have to put the accent on on Spanish?? I don't think the Mexican government would be so kind if masses Americans moved to Mexico. They probably wouldnt stress English studies just to better comfort Americans living in their own country. Shouldn't immigrants be required to know essential English, instead of virtually requiring the American population to learn their language?

YES THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO LEARN ENGLISH! BUT SPANISH IS REALLY EASY TO LEARN I THINK THAT'S WHY MANY PEOPLE WANT TO LEARN IT NOT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO TREAT MEXICANS LIKE ROYALTY NOT ONLY MEXICANS SPEAK SPANISH YOU KNOW... I THINK MANY AGREE WITH ME WHEN I SAY THAT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS VERY DIFFICULT FROM PRONUNCIATION TO WRITTING AND SPANISH IS VERY EASY TO LEARN SO THEN WE HAVE MANY PEOPLE WHO JUST LEARN SPANISH Source(s): I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IS MY FIRST LANGUAGE ENGLISH OR SPANISH SINCE I HAVE BEEN SPOKEN IN BOTH LANGUAGES ALL MY LIFE AND NOW I AM CURRENTLY FLUENT IN ENGLISH, SPANISH, FRENCH AND SIGN LANGUAGE. YEYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Illegals should NOT be required to cram English. First of all, organized language classes should not be available to them - they are criminals....
Secondly, the illegals inability to speak good English assists the authorities contained by finding them and deporting them. This is good.
Legal immigrants should be required to learn undeveloped English. It is customary for citizens to be conversant in the majority language of the country in which they live.
No They should not be here in the first place.
Yeah I think immigrant should be required to know basic English but I think you should be happy to be study a foreign language 'cause languages are a really important entry, they're like a key to a locked door.If you go to Spain for example you'll see that they wont speak contained by English because'you're in Spain and you'll have to speak Spanish'
Well, In Canada we have to cram French and nobody speaks French except in the province of Quebec. So yeah we have the same problems as you Americans enjoy with Spanish. Yeah it sucks, but think of this Mexicans lived in America until that time Christopher Columbus came and the British took over. So it's kind of the pride thing. Same beside Canada except we should learn Aboriginal language since they were here first earlier the French. Also another factor is there are more Aboriginal people rather than French.
Hello! I think is massively important speak English in this country.
But the Constitution of United States say: "This country don't hold official language"
There is one spanish speaker at my work and he cleans the building when all the Americans start out at night. I dont think he gets remunerated extra for knowing spanish but he understands when I put a sign on my food saying "dont throw out."
If its better for your future learn it after. Too bad
(Where I work they pay more money for speaking spanish:)
ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!!!!
If you are surrounded by the US,You need to learn english.End of story.
YES!! I've traveled and/or lived within over 10 countries from Africa to Latin America and I NEVER expected them to learn English for me. Also, my European ancestors didn't expect the US to change to their language - they knowledgeable English.
I think it comes down to the politicians want this very large voting block that will soon, likely, be citizens. Not to mention, Latinos are very well connected surrounded by their communities so the legal and illegals are, many times, related or associated and the politicians also know this. The politicians wouldn't risk alienating any of them.
If they need to cram it for their job or school than yes, but if their employers or costumers also speak spanish than I don't see the necessity.
