Wanting to move to Canada to be next to fiance?

I am trying to find out information on the best way for me and my fiance to approach our living together in Canada. I am currently in North Carolina and an American born citizen. He lives surrounded by Welland, Ontario and is a Canadian born citizen. We have been together for a year but the traveling is hard and we enjoy recently decided to get married.
I hold a son who is 13 and is not my fiances son but will be residing with us as well as I have sole custody of him.
What I obligation to know is what we need to do in order for my son and myself to move to Ontario subsequent summer. We are looking at July of 2010 so we can be there before school starts contained by September.
I will need to work when I am there as well.
Please, any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am tremendously confused with everything I am reading online. I am getting mixed detail from different sites and I want to do this the right way so we can be together with no problems.
Thank you for any assistance you can give us!!

There is no need for confusion. Look through http://www.cic.gc.ca and read through the whole site really carefully. It is the official Canadian government website dealing near immigration.

You wrote, "...I will need to work when I am there as well..." Unless you own skills, education and experience that is in constraint here in Canada, the chances of you finding a job are exceedingly very small - considering today's economic situation.
I know if an Canadian marries an American, the Canadian capture permanent residency status. I think it is the same the other passageway around.
" If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child (including adopted child) or other eligible relative (such as a parent or grandparent) to become a permanent resident."

I believe that you and your son would qualify underneath those provisions, especially is he adopts your son when you get married. The details can be found by following the link below, to the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website. Source(s): http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/s…
