Why do so various folks complain nearly Spanish human being spoken here contained by the U.S?
Isn't it somewhat of a pig-headed double standard for us to expect immigrants to learn a second language when most of us haven't?
Answers:
Well you see its two fold.... This is America, the aboriginal language here is English. Americans should not be forced to learn a language not of this country.... If they come here and want to communicate...consequently learn to speak English. If Americans go to Mexico for example, we learn their vernacular. It all comes down to respect, consideration and common sense which is a commodity for which most do not possess.
I for one respect the Spanish language, its unmatched and interesting, however I speak only English, because this is an English speaking nation.
That's true
For those of you who think otherwise, the integrated states has no official language. It's MAIN expression is English, and Spanish second. However that's quickly changing, so you don't need to want to lean Spanish, you don't even call for to like it because owning a business, going to school, or ordering at restaurants may penny-pinching you need to know a little Spanish, so soon you'll NEED to learn Spanish. majority rules, it's call democracy, look it up.
Hot Shot, you probably didn't notice but I'm writing in English, genius. I close to how you call us lazy but your the one with such a problem next to learning Spanish. I speak English, Spanish, and am learning Japanese. So who's the lazy chump?
because when other immigrants came to the United States they had to swot the language of the country English. It wasn't till Bubba signed a law making everything bilingual was at hand a problem. I don't care what language it is Spanish, German, Japanese whatever revise the language of the country. If I moved to France I wouldn't expect everything to French/ English just because I didn't want to learn French. In my occupation I've see some real
problems with them not speaking English.
And it comes in the form of 'safety' issues.
I know of a woman who be having a domestic with her husband with a gun. She call the police, had to be transferred to a spanish speaking dispatcher who sent out a patrol car.
Patrol car go out with 2 English speaking officers. When officers arrived, woman come out and there were communication problems. Officers heard gunshots surrounded by the house. Husband killed himself and child. Could the situation have been changed if she spoke English?
Another instance next to a fire. Firemen spoke English. Dad spoke Spanish and couldn't communicate to firemen that there were 3 children in the house and they adjectives burned to death. Could the situation have been changed if he spoke English?
You speak about me!
I don't think that is mandatory for immigrants to learn English, other than the certainty that to live in America they have to do business in America and accordingly somehow communicate with the people they do business with.
If companies want to do business contained by Spanish, and many of them do, then that is cool. That is a business judgment base on free enterprise and capitalism. They are out for the buck.
But in public life, similar to schools or voting booths, English should be the only language. If you really want to be assimilated into America, later you will learn the language. If I moved to Mexico and intended to stay, then I should revise Spanish.
I live in the U.S., we speak English. Why on top soil should I learn another language to cater to someone who is too lazy to swot up the de facto national language? Do you even know what double standard means? I'm thinking you don't. One of the most ridiculous question on adjectives of Y/A and an insult to America and Americans. English is America's "official" language and you will have a hard time within America if you don't learn it. At the same time alot of American's don't speak a second language so they loathe on people who do because they can't understand what they are saying.
No! If I decide to move to another country (legally) I will learn another language. If you are going to live here you must speak our argot or go home. This applies to all immigrants not merely the Hispanics. Although the Hispanics seem to be the only immigrants trying to force their vernacular on our schools and businesses. On a lot of classified ads you see BiLingual a ++ (bull****). I owned a business for years and if you couldn't speak English I didn't have need of your business. This is America "English Only". I Tried to speak French to some Mexicans and tehy don't understand a single word I said. Isn't it a double standard that they expect us to learn Spanish, but they refuse to revise French, German, Mandarin, Russian, Armenian, Thai, Hindi............ Should we call them stupid or bigotted for not wanting or able to learn any of these language, because it would be a double standard for those who attack Americans for not learning Spanish not to agree with what I wrote above. Why should Spanish be singled out? English is the standard in THe US and according to international rules, it's rude not to swot the language of the nation they visit. I consider it rude that American go to France and expect them to swot English, so therefor it is rude for people coming her and expect us to accomadate them. I do believe we should show tolerance, but that means that they should show an attempt to learn our communication.
Well, I find it very difficult to read people that do not speak Engish. After all, this is America. If I went to Mexico I wouldn't expect them to speak English.
I option the government would make it a rule that you need to revise to speak English before you decide to come over here. Many people urge "change and progress"...unless the change affects them and their way of living existence. I remember my mother used to whine about Asian people. She's say meaningless things like "Pretty soon there'll be more of them talking their language than us conversation ours!"
To which I would curtly reply: "Yeah....I understand the Indians used to say alike thing!"
I speak passable Spanish and worked hard studying it.
My main criterion for how I be aware of towards someone who seems to here on a questionable basis in vocabulary of legality ...is if the make a decent attempt to speak English.
It shows respect and commitment of sorts. I'm afraid my anger at man invaded by those that would not obey OUR laws since I can't really tell if they are permitted or not, is to use their language ability.
Ask yourself, do you want to be invaded and live among people who break your law, use your system to their own advantage ...AND DON"T SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE?
Even a cow will swat at the mosquito's biting it ...with it's tail!
why the **** should we learn a new terms, this is america, its ours, and we speak english!! if they want to live here, they need to learn our language The U.S. isn't a Hispanic or Latin country, accordingly English is the common language here. And I'd bet you that MOST have well-educated two or more languages.
I'm 2 dumb to swot more languages. I try and try and never get it right. Maybe that's why cuz it's 2 hard. My Spanish speaking friends are well-mannered to me and laugh with me from my mistakes. I laugh next to them 2 sometimes with their English. It's ppl who never travel outside of U S A that care I think. Check out the inactive chumps using the fact that the U.S. doesnt have an official verbal skill to defend these people who are too incompetent to learn English when residing within the U.S.
You will never NEED to learn Spanish, but if you choose to do business with lazy race that don't want to learn English, that's your deal.
I don't care one bit which languages people speak as long as they don't expect us to accommodate them surrounded by their languages. That is the problem, and a huge expense for taxpayers. most of the immigrants do learn english....it is merely the ILLEGAL mexicans that seem to think they are different...
oh by the way I do speak german , and french, I read aloud f*** learning spanish.....
In many countries there are more than one terminology spoke, but let's say China... There are at least two styles of speaking Chinese, but if you can compare them with two population speaking a different Chinese, they wouldn't fully understand each other.... Still Chinese, but a different style. I don't complain about Spanish at adjectives, people can speak all the Spanish they want, just don't speak it to me. I live surrounded by the United States of America and we speak English here.
Some people get really bent frail over "press 2 for Spanish" and the other bilingual stuff out there.
These people are generally of the conservative political multiplicity -- I'm pretty conservative too, but this is one issue where I disagree with them.
I say this because over here surrounded by Korea, and next door in Japan, and in most other Asian countries, you see a LOT of things made available contained by English.
And you don't hear the "locals" complaining about it.
Some people in the States say-so that people who go to the US should speak English -- but then they'll turn around and expect empire to speak English in Europe or wherever else they travel on vacation or business.
.
I shouldn't have to. They should learn our dialect if they want to live here. If they want to speak Spanish so dam bad they can go posterior to Mexico.
i agree with the first answer.
from living in upstate New York and many trips into Canada i know the other side of this situation. Some of the residents there refuse to speak to you in English. The area is predominantly French, and i didnt hold that against them, because it is THEIR country, and i should know their language and design, not expect them to cater to me. And the govt there isnt a bunch of pushover sissies that are more worried about foreigners than their own. If you didn't know, English is the language of the amalgamated states. How fare is it to the spanish speeking people that dont know english, when they need help, or own a emergency, they cant even ask for it. Spanish is not our first language, nor is it out second. It dose not even come on the list. English is the only expressions.
Why should I have to? Sorry, we speak English here and I'm not about to cater to those... never mind.. I better shut up .... Learning doesn't thieve space. Some people should try it. I'm multilingual.
Because SOME of them, not adjectives, have prejudices against Hispanics and regardless of how many good things they do they are going to be attacked by those prejudiced society.
Probably the same people who complain about Spanish person spoken in this country, don't realize how ignorants they look in front of others. And again, answer is because of prejudices
Let's see if I've get a handle on your logic ----
I'm an American and so I speak English but not Spanish (or German, or French, or Swahili....) Therefore immigrants to America where English is the predominant verbal communication -- at least for a couple of more years anyway -- shouldn't be expected to learn enough English to grasp along. That about it? THATS TRUE I AGREE,BUT WHEN YOU ARE IN A STORE
AND YOU DON T KNOW IF THEY AR SAYING THIS KILL THIS GUY WHEN HE GOES OUTSIDE THATS SCARY.
YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY TO LIVE HERE AT LEAST YOU DON T HAFT TO PAY TO USE THE RESTROOM,BE GLAD YOU FOUND WHAT WHITE MEN DESIGIN AND BUILT,ALSO BE GLAD FOR ALL THE FLEA MARKETS WE MADE NOW RAN BY MEXICANS,I DON T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOU HERE JUST SPEND SOME OF THE MONEY YOU MAKE SO IT WILL HELP THE ECOMONY
GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU .
