Well, we are a nation founded on immigration. But iffy immigration is not the same thing, no matter how several liberals would like to make it sound similar to it is. No to that! We should remain a nation of immigrants, but we don't need illegal immigrant, we have enough people inclined to do it legally. Those are the people who want to be real Americans.
No, Back contained by the day it was a good belief, but in modern times it's a freaking nightmare. We have enough and can't control them. We can't desire on an official language so you've got ancestors unable to communicate with each other. Immigrants also gain more benefits than natural born citizens do. Try being born here and being poor and told you don't qualify for healthcare when you're sick because you engender too much money at $8/hr yet people who don't speak a word of English qualify with no prescribed documentation. The govt can't control the population as it is. The economy is in the toilet and it's only getting worse. We have need of to shut the borders to immigration and get it under control again. Then reopen them with a bit of adjectives sense and regulate it so that the country isn't overwhelmed. Seriously, US citizens are really fed up with immigration and when people acquire fed up bad things usually happen. I've never see a pissed off person do good things.
Well during the time you talking about (the 1800's) the US had unlimited resources. Literally, unlimited. Land be free. If your question is focusing on whether we should have the same immigration policies that they have back then I would say No. We didn't really even HAVE an immigration policy posterior then. Immigration policy only really started when the Irish started coming by the boatload. We're all immigrant but we have to use our heads. Resources are dwindling.
Over the years immigration have changed since then. Many wanted a "new beginning" when they come to The United States, but now it is ridiculous, you call for help on the phone and they sometimes enjoy English as a last source. And why should ppl come to America now when their is not even enough job for Americans.
