I will soon be a "Landed Immigrant" surrounded by Canada. Do I hold to introduction my motor?
I am moving right over the New York - Ontario border to Canada for one year for family reasons. I will continue to aver a residence (an apartment) in the US and I will continue to work in the US. I will be crossing the border hindmost and forth every day for work; thus, my vehicle will also be crossing the border every day. Must I import my vehicle into Canada and register it surrounded by Ontario? Can I just leave it registered in New York beneath the circumstances?
Answers:
If you are moving to Canada as a landed immigrant you will have to import it. If you are moving using the intervening visitor status, you can bring the vehicle in as a visitor for up to 1 year.
They are pretty strict just about this. Any immigrant class of visa would require you to import the car.
Just leave it registered within New York for now. And if you owned it for over 6 months, there is no tax on import it anyway.
When I moved from Vancouver to LA, I just left the Canadian plates on it until they were up for renewal.
