Libertarian position on immoral immigration?
I am a conservative Indy who leans Libertarian but I am a bit vexed at their stance on illegal immigration.

Basically, they claim since so many do it, it should be made allowed and the immigrants should be temporary. My problems with this are, once someone is short-term, what's the impetus for them to move back home? So, many will overstay their visas and secondly, purely because a bunch of people break a law doesn't make it right. Prohibition be one thing, you hurt yourself but illegal immigrants can be non-hazardous workers or dangerous terrorists. You never know. Should lawbreaking really be encouraged?
Any Libertarians have a polite defense for this? It's one of the few platforms that I have problems with.

Libertarians are for wide open borders. That's one thing I disagree near them on. Other than that, they have a great party platform and deserve better coverage from the Libs in the medium.
Well again, its "if you dont bug me, I wont bug you".. which is really the core tenent of libertarianism.
This fits right in... to respectively his own and everyone deserves the "pursuit".

Some libertarians are for totally open borders, some are not (me included). The existence of the Welfare State is an incentive for many to stay here as capably as citizenship for children born on US soil. A libertarian society would have a severely reduced welfare state and there would be no citizenship for illegal immigrant's children.
Canada have a fairly successful temporary worker program and I think minus our huge welfare state, it could be workable here.
Also to point out, in a libertarian society, the economy would surely expand due to less regulation and taxes and their would be mission creation. Immigration would probably be encouraged for those wanting to work. The limited welfare state would weed out the lazy immigrant and there would be less recourse for them. Work or go home. Terrorists can be US citizens as okay as non citizens.

Economic freedom demands the unrestricted movement of human as well as financial assets across national borders. However, we support control over the entry into our country of foreign nationals who pose a threat to security, health or property.
This is how the event would deal with immigration moving forward. What you are asking is what should be done with those already here. How is the libertarian position any different the the current supervision turning a blind eye. We all know that we need the labor. We can't send these 12 million race home.
The only difference with the libertarian party is that they would treaty with the problem, rather than pretend it doesn't exist.
