American Immigration?

Hi, me and my partner are wanting to move to the US but are not sure whether it would be possible or not. We're both 21 and aren't married yet. We are both UK Citizens but my partner's father is a US Citizen. I've heard that she could get American citizenship through her dad sponsoring her. Is this true or would she merely get issued a green card? If she would only be issued a green card how long do you have to live in attendance before you can apply for citizenship so i could then apply for a fiance visa so we could marry over there? sorry for adjectives the questions... any answers would be much appreciated.

Actually, if your partner's father is an American citizen, he could file a petition for her whether she's married or not. It would change the visa classification from F1 to F3 and it would affect how long it would transport to process, but it can be done either way. If he filed a petition, she would be eligible for a green card. That would require her to live surrounded by the US for 5 years before applying for citizenship.

It might be possible for him to transmit citizenship directly, depending on the circumstances. I imagine though if it had be possible to begin with, it already would have be done, but perhaps not. He would have to have be an American and have had at least 5 years of US residence including 2 after the age of 14 at the time of her birth. So, that might be something worth pursuing. if so, contact the American Citizens Services Section at the embassy contained by London. And, if she can do that, once she's recognized as a US citizen, she would be able to file a petition for you at the embassy. That would be processed far faster near, than in the US.
Um being a born American I really wouldn't be for sure on the answer. But as much as I know I believe you have to own 5 years of living in the U.S. to be a full citizen to be able to vote and etc. But yes you and your partner would get a green card. But if your partner didn't own a U.S. resident or you to have one then it would take longer. But as much as I'm sure it is 5 years. If your partner's parent be an American citizen when she was born, she has derivative citizenship. If not then her dad can petition for her to receive a green card. She would want to live here for 5 years before she can become a citizen. Getting married will delay the process with her dad.

Your partner's father could apply for her, provided she is unmarried. Once she have legal permanent residency, she'll need to dally 5 years before she can apply for Citizenship. www.uscis.gov

You will find out there all give or take a few visa, times, immigration...

Good Luck.
