UK Resident wishes to move to america.?

I wrote a couple of questions before, regarding college. However, When i give up your job college, I am strongly considering moving to the United States of America. Could anybody here on yahoo, help me get started on how to become a United States resident (US Citizenship).

To make clear to you the truth anymore I do not know how one becomes an American citizen. The laws have changed so much and so confusing that its ridicules
You can do I suppose resembling most and just come on in...as long as you're working and paying taxes it appears the law maker dont care if you're here legally or not
You get a visa to live here first ..
Then 3 or 5 years after that you apply for citizenship
