"Why" do you hold to live within the US for 5+ yrs to become a citizen?
is there a reason why immigrants must live contained by the us for 5+ yrs and not just 2?

To control and maintain the integrity of the American system. This is a control method as far as immigration is concerned otherwise almost everyone will be a US citizen. Most countries have a 10 year period before you are even allowed to apply for long-term residency.
It's a number they picked out of adulterate air, basically. Like the age to drive, the age of consent, and drinking: they are simply chosen because they are thought to fit the ideas individual addressed at the time they were made.
As to the 'why' behind that, who know? There's no real way of knowing, short of going off and reading the debate and committee minutes of the departments and officials that drew up the laws.
Because it's the law. It's too short. It should be 10 years with no absenteeism of more than 90 days.
Because becoming a US Citizen is privilege, not a right. Also, USCIS has to know that you are serious enough to be US Citizen.
I think it is because for the simple reason that there's no point of applying to become a US citizen when you are not intending to live and establish residence surrounded by the US.If the US government will not set a minimum period of time for an immigrant to live in the US it is approaching making a mockery on the privilege given and immigrants will just be making the US citizenship an alternative or an option.
unsophisticatedly, they thought it would be nice if you actually knew something about the country since you pledged allegiance to it. so you could make an informed choice.
