Would you support varying our immigration law to the means of access they be during the time of Ellis Island?
So many people defend their stridently anti-immigration screeds next to "It's against the law!!" Fair enough. Laws should be obeyed. But possibly people are ignorant of the reality of these law. They seem to act as if they're sacrosanct, handed down from the founding father themselves. But this is at odds with everyone's understanding of America, which is of a place where on earth any person can come to to start a new life. And that's the process it was for hundreds of years, but not until relatively recently were law passed by Congress that pointlessly limited the number of immigrants allowed from particular countries. Because of them it is virtually impossible to immigrate here properly if you are from Mexico or Central America unless you have family here.
Now, anti-immigration people are maxim some of the exact same things now as they did in the late 1800s against Irish, Italians, etc. simply they could not hide behind a law to prove right their xenophobia. So let's be honest: are you simply against immigration or would you support of legislation that would restore things to the way they used to be, when your grand or great grandparents arrived here?
Answers:
There are nothing wrong near our immigration laws, the problem is the government not implementing them. So let start implementing our laws as they are and they will work.
Open borders + Welfare state = Big problems.
We did not have a multi-trillion dollars verbs system of wealth during the days of Ellis Island. We cannot feasible have both since open out border will attract a plentitude of low skilled workers who will be reaping more benefits from the state than they are putting into it.
I am open to the idea of prominently cutting the welfare state while opening up borders.
Immigration made this country. If we limit or return to that charitable of status qo, this country will die.
No I would not be in favor of immigration laws the instrument they were at Ellis Island, times have changed to much, we have become passageway more populated than it was then, and the laws we hold are fine, they just need enforced!
I favor population control. Zero growth. Growth can be a very discouraging thing without discipline and liberty and safekeeping. The trends are bad. Lets get our house in instruct for a couple of decades then consider anymore growth. A fine way to contrast conservatism and liberalism. I vote for order, displine, independence etc. That is what freedom means to me.
Please tell me you are not as oblivious as your question and your answers make you out to be.
There is one big difference between after and now. America was a vast farming, unpopulated country. That is no longer the case. It is not possible to allow anyone and everyone to enter our borders and stay. There are not enough job, homes, roads, hospital, schools, teachers, etc to support that kind of influx. Nor is here enough space to allow that type of growth. Immigration was needed to develope this country. Now it is not.
