I hold no problem with immigrants, they respect the laws, I despise illegals, they can clutch their disease carrying, I.D. and job stealing butts back to where they belong.
I am not prejudice at adjectives. BUT.....I think when someone comes to our country, they should come legally. I don't think they should collect welfare or social indemnity because they haven't contributed to it. I don't think that I should have to learn another spoken language other than english because this is an english speaking country. So, if they speak english, are here legally, don't collect SSI or welfare......Welcome to the USA.
Legal immigration is perfectly fine. Illegal immigration is just an unruly bunch of bandit who want to skip the formalities of obtaining legal citizenship.
I don't like unauthorized immigrants. They're the ones who come in on (in the U.S.) false or stolen social security numbers so that they can grasp benefits without really contributing to society. No, working for less than a company would have to reimburse a U.S. citizen or legal immigrant is not contributing.
Legal immigrants I have no issue next to.
This question has been asked heaps times and I will explain again that most here do not have a problem with immigrants ie endorsed immigrants who have respected our Country and our laws to come here reasonably.
That can not be said for the illegal alien that has disrespected our laws and our culture to come to our Counrty illicitly and then to expect us to foot the bill for all the social programs they use and the havoc they wreck upon the good Citizens here.
It is a adjectives mistatement by the pro-illegal alien crowd to lump good law abiding immigrants within with the illegal aliens and nothing could be further from the truth.
The people that hate them are the ones that don't know any instinctively, they are the same ones that are stuck watching the one-sided media, and they are like ones that have had ONE bad experience beside an immigrant, so now they hate them all.
The communication media is one of the big problems with today's hatred against them. They are fueling the dislike with lies and fabricated statistics. They have also found that a lot of it have ties to White Supremacist groups or other Racist Organizations. Big people on TV are also in on this, and some news reach a deal radio stations to. Usually people are "afraid" of other human being who are different than themselves.
They are afraid that you may pilfer away what they have (their life styles, their language, their culture, etc.)
Especially within the United States -- everyone wants to blend in.

Since you reflect on that the person who was on the home before should have his culture adopted by the unknown people, why don't you assimilate to native american culture since they were plainly there before you? First off - why do you think I do not like immigrant? I have worked with many immigrant from around the world and I have never had ill atmosphere toward any of them. I went to school with oodles, ran around with them, and enjoyed growing up near them. Mostly Spanish, Italians and Greek but to me they were all the same; equal as me. I am American by birth and blood and they were LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. It is not that I dislike ILLEGAL ALIENS (different than immigrants) but they are criminals and like them or not they have no business anyone in our country illegally. Do it right and they are as welcome as anyone else; if the first piece they have to do is disobey our laws then they hold no business being here. Illegal aliens violate our law the minute they illegaly enter our country and everyday they remain here. If you break the law you are punished; should they be treated any differently?

Others dislike immigrant for several different reasons. The first ones that come to mind is fear of different cultures, fear of the United States or region have it's culture altered by outside influence, and economic reasons. A lot of fear is generate by special interest groups and others like them that spread exaggerated concerns around while the media picks up on it.
Some people are plain racist, or they enjoy stereotypes based on limited contact with immigrant, but I think these reasons are lesser influences.
