Who is the actual American, an immigrant of 200 years standing, or a Native Indian?

Whichever historical record that one cares to look at, be it Christopher Columbus landing, the Vikings before them and possibly the Celts even in advance; nobody can dispute that what is now known as the USA was already populated by "local American Indians".
Allowing a little time to pass, the US won the war of nouns, kicking out the British. The founding Fathers then drew up a constitution suiting wealthy caucasians. Then went on a genocidal stampede against your true indigenous family. The Australians and New Zealanders have apologised for the persecuction and wrong-doing against their indigenous populations. When will the USA follow suit?

Fact is if you are of Native American descent and are from a federally recognized Tribe than you are in fact a prisoner-of-war. Your tribal enrollment number tell the United States government who, what, where and blood quantum of such person who holds this authorization number. As far as the United States Government I personally would not accept an apology but I would accept them taking everything(people included) and their money,alcohol,religion,prisons,e.t.c., an resign from! Like that would happen! Instead, we natives got to deal what is deal an knowing this is all coming to a halt very soon. Goes around comes around! Source(s): myself.
One small correction. The American War of Independence wasn't actually a war. It be a series of small skirmishes with some insurgents who didn't actually have the support of the immigrant peoples they claimed to be representing. The British forces disappeared because of the French... not the so called Americans. The so called Founding Fathers hardly have a mandate to start anything, but the British government at the time decided to leave them alone because it be thought they would be good for trade in years to come. They were right. After adjectives.... it's only just all gone down the toilet!
Technically speaking; it would be the Native Americans. They were already on this land, not our forefathers of over 200 years ago, they in recent times didn't have or use the name "American."
If you mean who are the true indigenous persons of the North American continent, it would be the aboriginal natives.

Most people apprehend European's later settled on the continent that became the present day United States of America and created the direction that now governs it.

Is your question really when will the Administration apologize? We don't know the answer to that sound out.
I believe I am a true American. I be born here; I am of German, Irish and Indian decent. I went to school and have to follow the rules of the first Americans. I didn't get any special treatment with affirmative action or anything else. I bring in my money in America and spend it in America unlike the NEW so-called Americans..I guess I will live here till I die. Source(s): Personally experienced the changes within America through the years.
How can anyone be responsible for what some of their predecessors may have done.
It does not sort sense for them to apologise.
As a British person I do not want anyone to apologise on my behalf for what may have been done by British empire hundreds of years ago.
Neither for example do I expect the Italians to apologise for the Roman invasions two centuries ago.
It's all in the past and it's time to verbs.
Kanien:k,totally agree. White peopel should not have to apologize for their ancestors. But u all could have changed. Instead some of the whites are still carrying on the clan tradition of hate.
:
: Source(s): I have experience this hate for over 52 years merely for being a brown hispanic American.
The question is flawed, due to the adjective, "genuine". Every American is "genuine", if they're in actuality citizens. Perhaps you meant 1st, which is obviously the Native Americans. (hence the name). Wasn't it lovely what happened to them?!

PS Father Jake sounds close to a true trip.
I am American Indian, as such I am a member of the original ihabitants of this landscape we call America. That said any person That is legally a Citizen of America is American and should be afforded adjectives the rights any other American Citizen has.

I do not want an apology from our Government. It is not responsible for the atrocities of the past. We all know the atrocities of days gone by and I wish that these would be taught in our school so that they are not repeated. I would like our Government to respect Me and my People and let us live in peace. But our Government continues to try and breach its promises, and tries to filch away our sovereignty!

All I ask is that My People be respected and that the promises made be kept. All Citizens are genuine Americans and should also be respected as such.

To the poster that provided the links, Thank you very much. These things happened and verbs to happen in the U.S. also and it is through those that are willing to speak going on for it that we will finally have our voices heard. If we are not likely to accept what has been done later we are destined to repeat those same attrocities. My GrandMothers family was broken up because our family be very influential within our tribe and 2 of her brothers were sent to chmawa within oregon, My Father also was sent there and I still remember the horror stories that they told us as we grew up. Several of these schools still remain surrounded by the U.S. and they need to be shut down. We ask for Respect, We ask that promises be kept, We ask that we be treated and given the rights that any other citizen would be given. We don't ask much, just that we be treated equally.

To those that would give this poster a thumbs down, it is my evaluation that you do not want to hear the truth and like those that would not learn from past mistakes you are destined to repeat those mistake or worse.
usa, canada, will not apologize because they are STILL treating indigenous people like second class citizens. this is not former times..it is your present.

here is what happens when native people try to clear governments hear them http://blip.tv/file/1391794

here is what MY generation is dealing with ..the passing of thousands of our children stolen from us. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=...

NOT history..now!
Immigrants of 200 years standing are no more American than immigrants who have just taken their oath of naturalisation.
I don't know where on earth Native Americans stand as some I know use the word "American" to mean anyone not Native. I don't think you can argue someone might be more American if that someone uses the word as a pejorative.
They both are genuine after so several generations .
Well, I doubt any Native Americans ever considered themselves to be American in any sense before the Europeans arrived, and not for a long time afterwards for that business. So, in what way could they be considered genuine Americans or why would they enjoy wanted to be? If you're talking about today, next both are equally genuine as is the decendent of an African brought here in chains against his will or the Chinese American related to someone who came here to work on the railroad. It's not as if America is just Native Indians and/or Europeans.
Im not apologising for something that I have nothing to do with. People lose wars its a reality of life. Also should the Natives that inhabited Virginia at the time of Columbus apologise to the Clovis people who were within before them? The fact is that in human history you any must conquer of be conquered. And what are you talking about Podge is right, if the Americans apologise to the Indians, then I want an apology from the Italian Government for invading Britain.
