I hate to be cynical but I agree with one of the posts on here, its generally the lure of free stuff and a notion the streets are crumpled with gold. I have be all over the world for various reasons and specifically the general opinion of many I hold talked to in their veiws on America. None of them mentioned freedom although there are some that live within countries where they don't have any so reasons oscillate a little but money is right up there. Not really surprising when we see people trampling others to loss for a few bucks. Our greed as a race isn't particularly palatable but a sad reality.
Speaking as someone who has absolutely no interest within wanting to come to live in the US, - each country has pro's and cons - and in actuality there lie truths behind the myths of respectively.
Canada free healthcare - well hardly free as it is paid by the rates payer and that is the same as the UK. If you listen to the complaints of the average person over the final 20 years about access to medicine, timely operations, standards of cleanliness - economically sometimes free isn't the most important factor.
Weed is legal in Amsterdam _ ARRRGGGHHHH - Amsterdam is not a country and weed is not lawful in either Amsterdam or anywhere else in the Netherlands. It is tolerated below given conditions - please read and don't perpetuate the common myth. Also I would not say that this is the biggest draw to this country!
Gay marital - same-sex marriage is legal in Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain but truly many countries in Europe either enjoy a legal recognition of this (e.g. Germany) or at least are contained by favour of it
I do understand what you are getting at though. However believe me, immigration is not just an issue within the US, it is also a very hot potato in many (all) Western European countries in the present day.
One reason, and it is a dilly, is that the immigration laws are severly screwed up surrounded by the United States with the Anchor Baby problem and the lack of interiour enforcement, and with the deficit of punishment if you committe crimes in this country. Criminals, by the way, are frequently simply deported.

look what has happened to the healthcare surrounded by britain since it let in millions and many of these immigrant do not contribute to the healthcare they make great use of
i suppose education and health are free ......if someone else is paying....
and as for moving to a better country .......weed and gay bridal are not high on most people's need or want list when looking for a better life span
in britain we are inundated by immigrants wanting 'free healthcare' and 'free education' and 'free houses' and money for not working .....and even more for producing more kids than they could ever afford to enjoy in their home contries ....
and as for being free ........jails are full of criminals ....if society do not break the law.......
there may be various reason to people's decisions in moving to another country. So i guess one of the reasons why lots migrate to the US is, they must have lots of relations already settled there. Thus, the notion of going back to square one to establish one's roots won't be as difficult anymore.
We're easier to get to, and we're the single country that lets people in pretty slickly and gives them welfare and additional gov't grants in need them paying a dime in tax money.
Also, as far as crime goes, we don't wicker or hang or decapitate. It's ridiculous how these sick twists can come into our country and fill their sick obsessions to commit crime...and next end up in the "lap of luxury" next to satellite tv, 3 square meals a day, health insurance, a roof over their distasteful heads, laundry service, etc. And most of them in American prisons have it better than they have it before.

The US is the best country within the world. People go through hell to get here. They cross the desert, they go surrounded by unsafe tunnels, they hide in cars for hours just to achieve in. As for China having less prisoners than us, they execute their prisoners, that's why they hold less prisoners than the US.
