It would really depend on whether or not the criminal offenses be felonies.
It depends on what you did? Killing someone and not paying some parking tickets are two very diffrent things! What did you do? whats on your record? are you a felon?
applying and getting a job in oz would not be a problem but getting into the country could be depending on what the criminal record is and how long ago and what age you be at the time. you could try going through google, or your search engine, and bring up Australia where you can find out information on visas and working because you need a work visa as opposing a tourist one. you may also be able to find out about criminal records or contact them or ring the australian embassy if you are within the USA or the Australian High Commission if you are in a commonwealth country eg UK.
whatever you do do not falsify your entry documentation or visa application which asks do you enjoy a criminal record because they do fairly extensive checks and if you get caught giving false information you can be within big trouble and even deported. on the other hand you may get away with it but to my mind it is far too risky.
don't know in the order of canada but possibly much the same.
