I came to the US with a tourist visa (B1 visa) and here I changed my status to an international student. Then I lost my passport! (where my tourist visa was sealed). I still hold my approved I-20 but I want to travel to my country for the summer vacation.
Will I need to present my tourist visa even if I still have the approved I-20?
What will I entail to travel and then come back?

not only you are going to stipulation your passport, but also you are going to have to apply for a F1 visa once you have your passport, EVEN if you have not lost your passport you would own had to do that in order to come support to the US. my best advice would be to get a passport at your nearest consulate of your country in the US, dance back home and apply for the student visa, it will be granted since you are already a student.
You need also your passport. You cannot fly anywhere without a passport anyway and if they agree to you than you cannot come back in the States anymore without one. You have need of to go to the police and report your passport lost and apply for a new one before you shift back to your country. The I-20 will help you with your visa but not near your passport.
