How do you be aware of give or take a few family who don't speak English and live contained by the USA?

ok, putting aside legal and/or illegal immigration, how do you feel going on for this issue? I ask because my stepfather has been living in the US for over 35 years (he come here legally btw, like the rest of my family, but that be a long time ago) and he doesn't know one word of ENGLISH!!

And in our neighborhood, local schools offer free English classes for everyone and I mind that even with free classes, many people still turn down to learn the language!!

I am a public school instructor, I've taught in at-risk inner city schools, I ABHOR the certainty that some schools want to make spanish the official prose. As I see it, this is the USA and ENGLISH IS and SHOULD be the only language spoken.

THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR IGNORANCE AND LAZINESS

I love it! i really like it. i dont think anyone should revise to speak english if they dont want to. why should we hate people that dont speak english? Look learning spanish is beneficial you be paid more friends. Please dont be ignorant and lazy, learn other language, this is america, we have no official language. I dont see why your a lecturer if all you do is whine whine whine. get over it everybody! this is the land of the free, to respectively their own, we have to learn to accept, not push away long live press 2 for spanish, ITS ALL GOOD and if you dont approaching that people speak different languages then resign from
Sometimes it is hard not to be a annoyed, because, logically, immigrant are expected to learn the language of the country they immigrate to.

But ... some people own a really hard time learning a new poetry.

Evidently he has been able to assert a job and provide for a family without speaking English?

It is probably best to not push someone to try to cram the language, since they have been competent to live their life without it.

Ideally, immigrants swot the language, but some are just not likely to do so.
I feel sorry for them Our language is confusing But it's their problem not mine
english is probably a very hard dialogue to learn compared to an english speaking person learning something else.
As for offical and with the sole purpose language, i think English is something anyone wishing to live contained by usa should know, but it shouldn't be mandated.
this is a country of immigrants, in time we adjectives learned the language out of need, but we weren't made to forget our home lands' customs and traditions, which is what make us great.
English was the language within which our country's Declaration of Independence, and Constitution were written in. No other language be to supersede, replace, or undermine the English language in this country. Nor be any other languages to be accommodated in written form to those who didn't speak English.

English be the language required to be learned when the new immigrant started arriving at Ellis Island.

Taking the oath to be, and have sole allegiance to the U.S., and no other country when becoming a Citizen, must be recited in English.

I still believe this is the style it should always be, no matter from what country they come from.

Even though English is the defacto language of this country, it should be the civil servant language of this country.

Try telling the Latin countries, or non-English speaking countries that we demand that their terms be changed to suit our needs for living, working, and traveling purposes, and see what happens.

Finland on the other hand teach their people the English language as a second language, and it is the one they use most.
A big pet peeve! My grandmother came over from Poland at the age of 17. Both her sons fought in WWII and one died conflict for this country. She invested in rental properties and became wealthy surrounded by this country. And yet, she never learned English and always put down the governing body. English should be our only language. The American flag should be our only flag. A foreign expression in school should be a language of choice and not mandatory Spanish. And yes, press two for Spanish should not exist.
Ha ha ha most Americans can't speak English . Source(s): I am English .
ok i think it ok my family came from italy and they did not in a minute how to Speak English at all. there next dore n be so nice that he helped them to learn english so. but they do say that we should Know 3 more langLang's you dontdon'te to if you dontdon'tt to. it worthy if you do but. right now i am tacking french and i wont to tack spanSpanishabecauseont to be a cook so i mite need that in the future.
I mull over you would be a bit shocked to know that most of them do already know the English language. Most of the problem is that they have a native vernacular they are very comfortable with. If you have ever scholarly a second language, you will catch yourself reverting back, and moderately often.

Having said that, many of them use that native tongue for privacy reason, they aren't confident enough that we aren't trying to eavesdrop - which could be for some very desperate reasons. I don't necessarily call that paranoia, I do think it is a bit prudent when surrounded by public. I would probably do the same to retain privacy.
They are a joke. English may not be the "official" language in the U.S. but it is the speaking used for all mandates and laws. If someone desires to live in another country the least they can do is assimilate and learn the terminology. Nobody said they have to be perfect at it.
I have no problem with it what so ever! For being a professor, you sure are narrow minded! " IGNORANCE AND LAZINESS".. maybe you should really ask these people why they haven't studious the language before calling them names. Some only work way too many hours to have time to cram, or they work side by side with other immigrants that speak the same verbal skill, so they don't pickup anything new. And I highly doubt that children refuse to revise it! you are a teacher.....so maybe you're not doing your job right.

If "English only" be enforced, then marketing companies would lose millions and millions or dollars. Children would not have an option to swot up another language, and as a "teacher" you should know that learning a second language is ALL POSITIVE! Maybe your institution needs new teachers!

Hispanic media hype to outpace general advertising

"Advertising growth targeting Latinos is expected to outpace the broad market over the next several years. Both the television and radio sector should benefit from increased interest in targeting the demo," said Deana Myers, Kagan media analyst

According to Kagan Research, Hispanic media hype will reach $5.5 billion by 2010, with a growth curve of 32% for Hispanic cable networks. General broadcast networks will show 12% growth during the same extent.

Children who have been exposed to a foreign language at an hasty age, often learn to read faster and with greater lessen because they are able to recognize the relationship between letters and their sounds lacking the help of visual objects. Exposure to a second language clearly benefits children’s reading ability.

It takes a while to learn a new terms I know from experience. I lived in Japan for 3 years and some people were nice and practical and others were @sswholes like yourself. I am an aircraft mechanic in the millitary and I still dont know Japanese. I guess that make me ignorant and lazy right? You would probably learn a great deal more if you had a little bit more life experiences. Its not your failing your dumb.
Lol. They should know satisfactory to be conversational.
Doesn't bother me because I'm fluent in Spanish and Italian. I can understand how hard it must be to revise a new language.
I totally agree with you.

I have matching attitude to those who come to Canada as well and cant speak any english or french.

and yes I get called racist if i mention it.
I can understand if someone is solitary going to be in the U.S. a short time, but 35 years... How does he function? Does he give a use why he has never learned English? Does he know how to read in his own words? Maybe he is really stubborn and feels superior to Americans?

If I were to move to another country and live there masses years - I would definitely try to learn to speak and understand the lexis. I would still speak English in my home and with other English speaking people, but I would want to know how to speak the language to fit in and not miss what was going on.

I live contained by America and English should be the official language.
I think that English should be required contained by order to get citizenship! They came to our country, they should speak what we speak.
It is one of my pet peeves when people come to live here and refuse to speak the writing. Do they accommodate English only speaking people in other country's? In Mexico do you enjoy to press 2 for English? If you are going to live in another country your should have to learn the speech.
Roger That.....Assimilation is part of the pack of the process. If you want to be......let it be
I understand what your maxim and i agree with you but on the other hand in the munificent of work i do, my supervisor will call me to come and translate i speak spanglish and not well at that but when they want me to translate i'm like cool how much does reimburse? and if they say nothing then i dont translate! it be not in my job description to translate and if they want my services then they own to pay me for them.. so
there is good and desperate to that..
I don't resembling it. I really hate it when they come to our country and tell us to learn THERE speech! I really don't understand that one
reaction to the universal linguistic epidemic!

these days people do not appreciate other peoples language, leave alone learning, they will stubbornly refuse to speak even if they can.

they will pretend they don't take in you even when they do.

the best way out of it is to grasp bits of a tongue to get you by, for your own convenience.

Go to a non-English speaking country and you will know what am talking roughly speaking

Personally, it disgusts me and I completely agree with you. I understand that English takes a while to get hold of the hang of, but if you are making an effort, you should be fluent enough in 4 years. I know WAY too many people who come here expecting to take our driving test, etc. in THEIR language. The last time I checked, though, the signs doing a tour, in the store, and everywhere else..are in plain english. Simple and clear.
It disgusts me when certain relations clearly refuse to learn the language. They produce no attempt to at least try the simple words. I understand if you can't speak it all right away, but stop coming up to me speaking within spanish. It's an absolute disgrace and it costing the USA too much time and money.
OK - SO WHEN YOU TALK TO YOUR STEPFATHER OR ANY OTHER FAMILY MEMBER WHO CAN NOT SPEAK ENGLISH IN A FAMILY SITUATION......

WHAT LANGUAGE DO "YOU" USE?

You just can't rule it out and call people unaware and lazy because they have not learned english.

Heck, I know wacky people that who where born and bred here who can not speak the proper "english" let alone someone who purely got off the boat.

Now I'm kinda thinking twice to send my kids to "PUBLIC SCHOOLS" where on earth the "TEACHER ABHORS" any other language than the norm.

Just because English is spoken is this country does not tight-fisted everyone needs to speak English. We have smokers, drug users, alcoholics, wife beaters and then are police officer, doctors, store clerks, pastors and teachers to name a few contained by both categories that is done in the United States but that does not plan everyone (legal or illegal) has to do them because of that reason.
Oh and any one of those traits could be a part of anyone of those professions scheduled. No one is perfect, at least if we are truthful no one is.
How in the region of those that come here and learn English for their citizenship and then, in their morning to day life have no grounds to speak other than their native tongue. There are also some that have great English skills but choose to speak another vernacular when communicating or in their social environment. Lastly is the few usually elder folk that speak "none" to zero English. I personal see them for the beauty of their age and the tradition one gets from time and living.
Would it be wrong for those that speak English to think of Americans that do not speak Spanish, Russian, German, Hawaiian, French, Polish, Arabic or a host of other languages that are spoken by ancestors that have emigrated or are visiting this country as uninformed or lazy? Do you view your step father as ignorant or stagnant for his lack of speaking English?
As for the "love" you lost in doing your substitute public school learning, well may I suggest that you take your own advice and hold looking for another line. If driving truck falls through keep researching the nursing and if that does not measure up here are thousands of other job choices out there. It is painfully clear that this work is not fulfilling your needs and in the long run it is the students that will lose the most.
My friend, if you get up within the mornings and are thinking of ways to get out of going to work today then you labor, no one desires to labor.
My grandmother came from France in the 1950s and even past she moved here she learned the English language. She was proud to live within America and believed it was her responsibility to the learn the language to better assimilate. Many immigrant from the past felt similarly: they were proud to be American and feel it was their duty to adapt to their new country, not the other method around. Today I believe many immigrants no longer appreciate America, viewing it as something to take power of and nothing more. A good example is the now adjectives sight of protesting Mexicans waving Mexican flags around and burning American flags, claiming that this great nation is not doing enough to aid them.
my step dad has been living here for more than 30 yrs and he doesnt really know english a word or two but not really. its not that they are lazy its merely that they dont want to do it maybe they are not into it asmuch as you are. and honnestly this country has diferent diversities, races, religions, language. english is always gonna be the main language. we are adjectives from diferent countries and we need one language to go by if not we would all be confused. and in my school hispanics cover as much as 95% of the university. and same goes to all the schools within our city. even though we all speak spanish we also speak english and we speak english the most sometimes mixed but its spoken some people i know dont even know spanish and thats that their parents are from mexico so thast crazy to me. it would be better if everyone could talk spanish but what roughly speaking the asians the people that come from the middle east or germans or other people they would be real confused so am contented with english as the main language that opening everyone can understand eachother.
English is the language that this country speaks. If you want to be able to live here I think you should at smallest have a limited knowledge of English. And this press 2 for Spanish crap requirements to end.

Resolved Questions:
How can i turn contained by someone that committed immigration fraud on the 1986 amnesty decree.by submitting fraudulent i?
