Illegal immigrant trying to stir to a university!?
are there any universities in the US that adopt students disregarding their status?
i have a friend who is not legal and it really feel impossible because she came here when she was little, and is considered 'illegal' bc of her parents, and none of it was her knock. she also is a really good student which makes the situation worse because all the works she've done surrounded by HS is about to be worth nothing!
i would really appreciate it if you could answer this question, thank you
Answers:
I don't know if they check but most do require a social security number. College is optional high academy is not your friend should work on becoming a citizen when she turns 18 then trying to go to college. America should not give free money to illegals for anything, especially college.
I am so sorry, but I expect every US university requires a social security number.
I would also like to add that I dream up the people who posted above me are being insensitive. I understand not wanting to supply unshakable rights to illegal immigrants, but I think this situation is different. This girl come to this country when she was really young. It was not her choice. She is striving to become better against the current of a country who won't assistance her. It isn't fair. She's trying to be a good person and you adjectives are verbally bashing her. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
A lot of schools do not require you to have an SSN or A number. (I simply looked up my school's page and they don't have such a requirement either). That is why it is possible to go to college for illegals. She could go to HS too. I hear there is a law that the kids of illegals should not be discriminated in childhood even if the children have illegal status themselves as well. I don't know how it works exactly but I did not own to provide an SSN when I gained admission (I'm legal though). Why doesn't your friend be in motion to an online university where physical presence is not required? That would be completely legal...
I don't understand citizens saying she should apply for citizenship. If she could then she would but how could she do that if she doesn't even have a green card or visa? Naturalization is preceded by heaps steps. It is not that she could do that and most illegals who have never had visas are denied even if they become eligible for a green card. Well, her parents really did not think this over and immediately she will have difficulties finding a job and doing simple things that we can do for the rest of her life. I do estimate she can go to college but then how can she get a work? She doesn't have an SSN...she seriously has to think almost her future because as an illegal, she won't be able to obtain good jobs that would require a college degree. I hold no idea how her status could be made legal unless she marries a citizen but that won't be a short procedure contained by her case either. Maybe a good immigration attorney could achieve some agreement but that would certainly take years also. That's her only choice if she wishes to be legal.
I'm not sure if its the whole United States or just my state, but they are letting illegal immigrant go to college here.
Not that I think it's fair.
It's elimination spots for LEGAL citizens to get in.
I think if she really requirements to lead a successful life, she should apply for a citizenship.
Even though she'll have to progress through the whole Naturalization process, which could take awhile and cost money, it will be worth it in the come to an end.
And if she doesn't want to do that, she just needs to go pay for home because it's not fair for illegal immigrants to live here.
I grain for you though.
She needs to apply for citizenship.. or at lowest possible residency.
I have a friend who got into an university by simply providing evidence that she is attempting to change her unauthorized status.
Your friend's parents should have been working on this if she has be in the states for so long. She should speak with an attorney that specializes in this.
Good luck to your friend.. she deserves an instruction like anyone else.. especially since she has been working so not easy. I know so many Americans that are born with the privilege yet pinch it for granted.
If she applied for legitimate citizenship, then she would be able to attend any university. However, since she's illegal, she may own to settle on an online university, there are little to no colleges that accept illegal immigrant.
Yes, and I know some undocumented students who are attending university.
Many university will accept undocumented students, since their admission criteria consists of: grades, SAT scores, extra-curricular endeavours, and essay. There are NO laws that forbid undocumented immigrants from going to college. There are also NO laws that forbid undocumented students from unloading scholarships from the unviersity itself or from private organizations. I have a friend who told me that she WROTE IN HER ADMISSIONS ESSAY THAT SHE IS UNDOCUMENTED. Guess what happen? She was accepted, and with a award. If your friend meets the school's criteria for acceptance (which doesn't look at immigration status) then s/he can manifestly go to college.
S/he can go to a private school and even receive a private funding (that is, one from an organization or from the school itself). S/he can also go to a state college and depending on the state (such as Texas, New Mexico, California, New York, Illinois, and a few others) s/he can even pay in-state tuition if he has lived there for 3-4 years, depending on the state. He can also stir to a community college.
The one thing your friend can't do, however, is get financial aid- legally, since just citizens and permanent residents are eligible for it. Some banks might lend himor her the $$, but again, s/he would have to check next to the bank, but there are some that would. Also, tell him or her NOT to not tell the truth or use false documents to enroll in school or to get in-state tuition, since this can mar him or her in the long run, such as getting his or her degree or green card if s/he is able to do so surrounded by the future.
By the way, igonre many of the answers here that hold been rude, arrogant, and very misinformed. Some of the people's only source of information in the region of immigration may be Lou Dobbs, or some other anti-Mexican, anti-immigrant, xenophobic propaganda.
On the other hand, I completely agree with Joe B.'s answer- so right. BTW, appropriate luck to your friend!! Source(s): I have undocumented friends from Brazil and from Colombia who are college students. My Brazilian friend attends a private Catholic school on a merit-based scholarship and my Colombian friend attends a local community college.
She should capture legal or go home.
No there aren't. Thanks to the selfish actions of her criminal parents she will eventually be caught, deported and not permitted from this country. Her best bet is to return to her country of origin and come back legally.
I believe every one has the right to an education. Only Nazi's are against associates learning.(My 2 cents)
well her parents should own thought about that one shouldn't they?
