US Passport picture examine?
Is it true that you're not suppose to smile on your US passport picture? And is it true that you also have to show your ears (if you have long hair you hold to tuck it behind your ears) on your pic? Because I read the picture requirements on our US Embassy's website (I live in the Philippines) and there's nothing roughly those rules. But photo studios here says you have to do those.

Last month I applied through the American Embassy for a passport for my daughter and a renewal passport for myself. We both smiled in our pictures and they have no problem with it. Got the passports in the mail. They don't own the rule about showing an ear.
yes the US Visa guys are too specific about your Photo Requirement. The Photo should be of a specific size (3x3)inches apprx and it should show you face very clearly so that you can not cast a shadow on anything at all.
i changed my pic 2 times because of the same facts.
I have hear about the requirement that you have to show your ears. Do it just to be secure.
It is true that you may not smile, but showing ears is not a necessity. It may have been a moment ago enacted; I updated my passport in 2005.

There is nought about showing your ears. I just renewed my passport in November and hold long hair that covers my ears, and did not have to pull put money on my hair
As for not smiling, many countries don't want you to smile in the pictures. The US doesn't specify whether you can smile or not, but I purely don't smile
