On a visit to Costa Rica in late March, US Vice President Joe Biden expressed reluctance to the hypothesis of legalizing the status of undocumented immigrants in the United States this year. Speaking to reporters, Vice President Biden said that the monetary crisis and rising unemployment make 2009 an inopportune year for a comprehensive immigration reform that would benefit undocumented residents.
"It's unyielding to tell voters, when unemployment is increasing, when they are losing their jobs and homes, that what we should do is make conform foreigners and stop deportations," said the US' second highest official.
Approving a path to legalization for undocumented immigrant was a campaign pledge of the Obama-Biden ticket last year. Many analysts credit the big Latino vote for helping the Democrats win the race, due in part to the candidates' position on immigration redeployment.
The Vice President's remarks are the latest signal from the Obama administration that prospects for a speedy immigration reform are not on the instant political agenda. Nonetheless, some media reports suggest that the Department of Homeland Security will shift its focus in immigration law enforcement away from the mass raid and deportations that characterized the last two years of the Bush White House to an approach that concentrates on cracking-down on employers of undocumented immigrants.
Despite the adverse monetary climate, pro-immigrant activists are intensifying their activism. Catholic and Protestant leaders have been speaking out surrounded by favor of comprehensive immigration reform, while the Hispanic Congressional Caucus has been touring the country and listen to the personal stories of immigrants in El Paso and other cities.

All I can say is if you want an illegal later lets have Adopt an illegal light of day in this country and for that illegal you get to compensate their way for the rest of your life.I bet there will be some takers but lately like dogs and cats they will get tired of taking care of them and afterwards we will have illegals being drop at the border just approaching stray animals.Those who want them here either has a need for them (such as cheap labor)or is within a relationship with them.Its all self serving believe me.And as for Obama/Biden will they wanted the vote and they also know that if they even try to normalize these law breakers that are here they will have a fight on their hand.I guess I just don't understand why these people that are voted into public department have no trouble with making the tax payers of this country get through the cost of having illegals here but wont stand up for us when most of us dont want them here.
